Re: My '67 Stepside build

well, it's been a while since I've had time to make progress on the old gray ghost .... its running pretty smooth.... have accomplished the following:

headlights and tail lights working now...blinkers not, but I'm thinking its the flasher.. respective taillight gets brighter when the the blinker is turned on...just not blinking amazing...all of the interior dash lights work. this truck set in the cow pasture since 1987.

new master cylinder is bench bled and replaced... rear brake lines replaced and front brake hoses replaced. still lots of air...cant seem to get rear bled. barely has brakes.. drove it about a mile down the road up to 40 mph and it drives pretty doggone good. a little slop in steering, but that can be addresses as i move onward through my list.

frozen passenger door latch removed (after drilling out rusted screws) and soaked in pb blaster ...nowworking...just needs re-installed on truck.

plan is to get the brakes working at an acceptable, safe level then I'm going to completely refurbish the interior. The windshield has to be replaced, so I'm going to replace the dash pad and prep, paint the interior while the glass is out. My short term plans are to make the interior like new, get it mechanically very sound and drive it with the funky ol patina on the outside.

Re: My '67 Stepside build

Cool truck, man. If it were mine, I'd have to fight the urge to lift it with an LS swap.... but they way it is optioned out.. It would be awesome just to restore it. I've never seen a 4x with a 6 in it. So cool.

Re: My '67 Stepside build

That was my first inclination when i got it... I have a 5.3 and 4l60e already rewired sitting on a stand...but the more I mess with this old thing, the more I'm wanting to just get it back like it was in the day. thanks for the comments

Cool truck. As much as I'm a fan of LS swaps, I'd restore it back to original since it is kind of a rare truck.

Dig the step side 4x4. Would like to do one when I finish my current truck.

Re: My '67 Stepside build

Finally back to work on my truck. Found a clean fleet side bed. Gonna hang on to the stepside bed for a while just in case I change my mind. Started the surgery on rust

Re: My '67 Stepside build

well, it's been a long time since i've been on the forum... too distracted to get much work done until late. here's a few pics of the work taking place on the floor pans, cab corners and other body work.

Picked up a real clean fleet side bed that i am going to use. I plan on hanging on to the stepside...jury still out on what i want in the end

Re: My '67 Stepside build

forgot to mention reason for distraction... picked this up recently and been too smitten with the new girl to pay much attention to the 67.. i love this 72 CST with drivetrain, brakes, steering from 87 and new fuel injected crate motor. original Arizona truck with zero rust.

Nice score on the 72, looks like a real solid truck.

Re: My '67 Stepside build

Nice trucks, I have a stepside and I'm looking for a fleetside bed for a trailer I may do some swap in the future if I'm so inclined. I'm glad to see your thinking about keeping it stock with the six cyl floor shift. Enjoy!

Nice Blazer. Yeah K/5s are fun to drive. I also have a '71 GMC Jimmy. And I have a fleetside bed trailer to pull behind it. No hitch on the '68 Stepside yet. Be careful about displaying too much attention to one truck in front of the other, they get jealous.

Re: My '67 Stepside build

finally circled back around to the rusty ol '67 got it running again and decided i'm going to restore the interior to new condition and leave the funky ol' patina in place. Replaced the front bad sheet metal, rocker panels, cab corners. The old 292 runs great and has a ton of torque. Plan to get back on it starting this weekend.

Better yet keep it like it was, only working.

i'll try to take some pics tonight and post.

probably wont get talked into a v8... considered it, but the 292 starts and runs really well. drove it a couple times (without brakes) and it has alot of torque... just kind of cool having it original as possible. I may try to find a solid 2wd to put in a 5.3l and 4l60e tranny i have waiting for a home.
Whatever you do to it, don't paint it!
