Re: Shortening a long bed fleet to 7 foot question
I have a long fleet bed, and my 65 is a shortbed.
So I have to take the full 12 out in front of the wheel, but in the rear I might only take 6 out. I'll experiment with ol'skool's pic. @ol'skool, is your wheel well in the pic at the long bed length? Posted via Mobile Device

The only problem is that your bed isn't going to match the cab for natural wear

Re: Shortening a long bed fleet to 7 foot question
It is hard for me to see all the cool projects and innovative work on this board and then leave things as they are. Plus, after my field trip to Dino's I got all fired up. I mean, who wouldn't? It was like C10 project heaven. To be honest I have been looking for a second truck for the last few weeks. Just please don't tell my wife.

Re: Shortening a long bed fleet to 7 foot question
Here is a photoshop I did of mine:
7 inches off the front and 7 inches off the back. I think the proportions look pretty good. I may mess with it a little more though. I measured the overall length in inches and then converted it to pixels. I then measured the pixels and converted back to inches. |

Re: Shortening a long bed fleet to 7 foot question
Um, well... I'll admit I'm surprised at how well balanced some of these "medium beds" look. Really, they look good! Now having said that Endlessearth, I don't think I'd blow that awesome patina and survivor status all to hell just to knock a foot off the bed. Plus, if you use your truck, that extra foot comes in handy!

Re: Shortening a long bed fleet to 7 foot question
I have to agree! When I saw the title of the thread, I had already made up my mind that I wasn't going to like it. That is, until I started seeing the pictures. I have to admit, the Medium Bed has a nice proportion to it. I might give it a try on my next project....

Re: Shortening a long bed fleet to 7 foot question
I think balanced is the MOST important think in building a car or truck...the 7 foot bed in what ever way you choose gives it amore Balanced look

Re: Shortening a long bed fleet to 7 foot question
I stumbled across another pic.
I tend to agree that the shortbed looks stubby and the long just looks too long. I'm really liking the look of a 7 foot bed.

Re: Shortening a long bed fleet to 7 foot question
First post here, lots of great info on this board. Mine is a true 7' bed. Done by a previous owner. I have to agree, I like the proportions compared to the long or short.

I know this white truck. You bought it from Tommy in Hillsboro. It use to have red flames. Haha. I know it well. Someone shorten it before he had it.
Welcome to the board.
