'87 is a transition year and you get some old and some new body style parts.

Re: Spent a lot of money today

I'm too late. I was going to advise you to remove the intake and oil pan. Add a good bead of RTV to the corners and intake rear/front walls. It would save you oil leaks in the future. Using aircraft sealer on the bolts will also keep oil from creeping up onto the intake.

It's alive, It's alive. Only took me a month, but it fired up on the first try. I'm hoping to finish up some little things tomorrow and be driving it Friday, Hopefully.

Re: Spent a lot of money today

Drove it a little tonight, Wow that thing has a lot more power then the old motor. But in 3rd and 4th gears (sm465), while giving it some gas. It sounds like something is chattering, maybe clutch. Kind of like a diesel flapper. I do know there is a small exhaust leak on the passenger side manifold gasket. Going to fix that tomorrow. Think I should pull the trans back out and double check it. Any thought?

Re: Spent a lot of money today

Is it rhythmic? Or does it sound super random? If super random I would think it's pinging.

Re: Spent a lot of money today

Only does it while accelerating in 3rd or 4 gears. Once I get to speed and let off it's fine. Today I talked with a mechanic buddy of mine. He suggested the u-joint. Which I did have a hard time getting it back in. So he might be on to something there.
