No. The "buckeye" mirrors were optional, either painted or stainless.

Holy Geez lilpoindexter, I had to check my garage to make sure my C10 custom deluxe was still in there. I have a '78 stepside, 250 I6. Originally it was a 3 on the tree but it was swapped for an auto TH350 some odd years ago by my dad. I could never figure out why. Here's my no A/C plain jane C10 with a slightly newish CD player and that's about all for options. Oh has front disc brakes and PS, but crank windows, no headliner, no dome.

How did you handle the steering column after the 5-speed conversion? Specifically, I mean requiring the column shifter to be in reverse before the key can be removed and the column locked. And I assume you have a backup light switch mounted to the trans itself?

This is my 87 Custom Deluxe. Has a/c and power steering and a cloth seat. Has all the trim codes for the side trim and mirrors but I think the ralley wheels were added at the dealership. (I have the original sales right up from the dealer and it says $225.00 for ralley wheels) There is a code for interior trim cloth Medici red so I think it had the cloth seat from the factory. No headliner, radio delete, manual windows, manual locks, no cruise or tilt. Going to do away with the TTIIS and put the ralley wheels back on, this is how I bought it but got the original wheels too.

My column doesn't lock...i just assumed it was supposed to be like that...maybe a previous owner broke or disable that locking feature?

I ran the two wires for the reverse light to the switch on the T5 to get functional reverse lights.

I jumped the neutral start switch, so the truck will start in gear if you don't depress the clutch.

When I did a floor shift conversion in my '80 (from 3ott to 4 spd on the floor) I "pinned" the steering column bowl in the upright and locked position. That way the key would go in and out without any difficulty. I also cut the nub off the column and mounted my Sun tach over the hole.

I used a separate toggle switch for backup lamps; that way I could use them for hooking up the trailer in the dark, too.

What kind of wheels are those (TTIIS)?

Here's my 74 custom deluxe when I got it and how it looks now. Mine has a 350 with th350 trans, power steering and power disc brakes, no a/c, had an am radio but now has a pioneer cd player, has no headliner but has a dome lamp. Did a lot of upgrades including bucket seats n console, suburban sport rear bumper, rally wheels, lowered 4.5/6, b&m shifter, grant steering wheel....and now its getting a 5.3 & 4l60e

Re: Calling all Base Model/ "Plain Jane" Truck Owners

I just picked up this '85 GMC Seirra a couple of weeks ago. It is all stock original except for a stock white repaint and the stripes some years ago.

Vinyl Seat, Manual windows & locks, no tilt, no cruise, and not much else. A4.3L V6 with a Q-Jet and a TH400 trans and 2.73 rear gears. The SPID is there, but I don't have a pic of it. Engine is shot at this point, but thats fine with us. We are going to put in a 5.3/4l60e combo. Looks like it had D49 mirrors too, but some PO put on those ugly ones....

Gave it a quick bath with a gray scotch brite and dawn dish soap:

PO had carpet put in and my son and I are in the process of removing it. It was also glued to the door bottoms and the kick panels.

Re: Calling all Base Model/ "Plain Jane" Truck Owners

I'm lovin' this thread. Look at my sig and you can see why - most of my stuff is one color, manual everything, and no radio even. Less crap to break at 200, 000 miles which is the minimum expected life for my vehicles.
What's with all the 2 tone paint on low level trucks?
On my 81 it has ONE 'sport' (base) mirror, drivers side only. The 77 at least has 2, and the 82 has painted dumbos. The 81 has a painted bumper, no rear bumper, no spare tire, 3OTT, manual steering, 250 six, and has power brakes only because it's a 3/4 ton, all factory. The 77 doesn't even have PB. Both had rubber floors and no A/C.
When I get in the 87 diesel I feel pampered - but deaf.

'bout time you showed up (lol). Must be busy with Robotics.

Not sure what's up with that '81 with one mirror. My '80 had one on each side (Scottsdale, 6 cyl, 3ott, rubber mat, manual everything).

Good, I'm glad you like this thread. I knew that there were base model owners out there. Look at my pictures, my truck is just a single color- white.

I posted my 1990 GMC Jimmy SLX earlier in the thread. Just got it back from having it painted. It's not perfect, but they did a pretty good job especially for the price I paid. I did have them remove the side molding and weld up the holes, but other than that it was just repainted the stock white.

I had a Blazer Silverado, tilt wheel and electric rear window were really all it had for "luxury" options.

Can you get a close-up of that rear "Jimmy" emblem? I've never seen that one before, but then again I very rarely see 89-91 Jimmy's.
