Re: Crash's 1988 Land Cruiser Build
Thanks.... i guess the same could be said for the 1st gen Chevrolet small block, yet many people replace them with late model FI engines. Better power, better drivability, better fuel economy, increased dependability, greater availability of parts, etc... plus i enjoy doing it...

Re: Crash's 1988 Land Cruiser Build
This is a sweet build. After reading the whole thing last time, I had to pull up CL. There is a guy in my neighborhood that flips Grand Wagoneers. I drive by his house on the way home from work every night and have to take a look. I have a feeling one of those is in my future somewhere, with an LS swap. Just have to finish the current one first.

Re: Crash's 1988 Land Cruiser Build
Time for an update..
Got the Advanced Adapter parts… Decided to clean up the injectors… Cleaned up the engine a little more… Installation of the adapter.. Setting the air gap on the speed sensor.. Put it all together.. On the lake today… start the tear down tomorrow…

Thanks Mike... Wish we could figure out how to make the adapter stuff.. AA is very expensive..

Re: Crash's 1988 Land Cruiser Build
Got the drivetrain pulled Sunday…
Next weekend I will start on the frame clean up and tear down of the transfercase. I believe I am going to have to replace some parts in the TC. The front bearing was very lose.

Wow, you weren't messing around with pulling the old drivetrain. Very quick!

Re: Crash's 1988 Land Cruiser Build
Removed and broke down the Transfer Case.. It all looked good except for the front output bearing.. it was in bad shape.. Still attempting to find someone to sell me a rebuild kit.
I bought this press a couple of years ago and it is still working well.. Started the cleanup of the TC case and parts.. Next step is removing the old engine mounts and cleaning up the front frame..

Re: Crash's 1988 Land Cruiser Build
Removed the front engine mounts and cleaned up the frame..
Removed and cleaned up.. Removed the steering gear and started cleaning it up.. Started the process of getting the engine in the correct position for building the mounts.. I had hoped to use the factory engine mounts and brackets.. but doesn’t look like it will work.. I most likely will order the Advanced Adapter kit…

Re: Crash's 1988 Land Cruiser Build
Update from 06/15/14..
Mounted the LS1 Camaro Fans to the Land Cruiser radiator. I used these fans on my 69 Chevy K10 build and they have really worked well. I really need to get rid of this..

Re: Crash's 1988 Land Cruiser Build
Update from 06/22/14
Headers and motor mounts.. Steering gear box clearance.. Pulled the drivetrain to rebuild the transfer case.. new bearings, seals, thrust washers, gaskets, etc… Had problems getting one of the bearings off the shaft… had to use an old trick with a new tool.. It popped loose before I cut all the way through. Idler shaft was worn pretty bad.. Overall, the rebuild was much easier than expected.. I reused the shims that were original to the TC. The preload was a little on the tight side, but still in specs.

Re: Crash's 1988 Land Cruiser Build
The LS1 fans look like they were made to mount up to the stock radiator.
I really like the new headers too. Those look nice! You made the transfer case overhaul look easy..... |
