that's not a gun rack that's a builders level rack LOL .... by the way rifle racks are legal here ...... i bet you have a spun rod .....i have the same thing on a 305 in a 63 i have a v8 juice bell housing i am probably going to drop a v8 in it i have a few of those around the parts for the v6 are getting harder to find if you are interested a guy in San Diego has a v6 305 for $350 look on CL

Looks like a good score. Just a FYI, that factory power steering is basically the same as what is used on the '81 (?) and earlier Corvette. Just in case you plan to keep it and need a rebuilt kit and or parts

Thanks for photos of wheels, just as suspected, your truck has the period wheels that were common during this camping era. Common practice was to put wide base aftermarket 16.5 on the rear for better stability and keep the original front wheels. Here is a photo of a '64 with the exact same set up.Here is a tip, put a very wet new SOS pad to the hubcaps, and scrub, watch the chrome come back to life! Its very possible your truck was originally tu toned, check for ivory white paint around side windows and top to bed rails. Sludge on old engines was common at one time when motor oils weren't that good. Unforunately, sludge plugs up oil galleries and pre maturely wears an engine out. The weakest link on the 305 and 351 V6's was the super long timing chains that didn't get enough clean oil and would wear and then slip, causing the engine to eventually die. Bigger V6's 401 thru 478 used a gear drive system that was much more reliable.

Thank you for all the positive comments and the camper pic as well!
Cleaned up a couple of pistons to see if there was on overbore number stamped and I can't see anything. So I assume it's a good candidate for a re-build. I'm going to go the V8 route with a 350. So this motor and tranny will be for sale. I drained all the fluids. The engine oil was definitely thick!! but the tranny fluid was red and clear! That made me happy I think I'll throw the motor and tranny on Craigslist for $400. Does that sound like a decent price or am I way out? |

It's been there for a long time. Front end sheet metal is still there, it's pretty dented up though. It's a dually. Where do you live in LA? |

Pulled the motor today. My friend got the princely sum of $46 when he took it to the scrap man! lol.
So I'm left with these towers. Are these the style that a 350 will drop on to or do I need to swap them out? I've seen threads on I6 to V8 but nothing on V6 to V8.

What tranny your truck have? I'm not sure what the interchangeability is with the gmc motor/tranny and small block

Yes, I hope so. Those V6 power steering pump brackets and pulleys are very hard to find
You will need different engine mounts and brackets. That trans isn't going to just bolt up to a small block either.

No I'm going to get the tranny out and up for sale in the next couple of date.
I think it's a 2 speed power glide. I have the power steering pump in the engine bay. It's all there My ideal set up will be a 350 with either a 700R4 or 200r4 depending on which pops up first. I assume the 200R4 ratios will be more car based and longer?

The '63-'66 Chevy engine mount brackets (towers) will work just fine. If you go with the '67-'72 small block engine mount brackets, those will move your engine forward about 2-1/2" or so.
