I ordered 22"s, I hope I don't regret it but they should be way better on space and for a more DD truck. The 24"s seem like just enough extra work to be not worth it.

Ordered adapters today, should ship on Friday and I think I will run to Mesa and get the wheels on Friday too.

It all depends on what tire you wear on here that would cause more work. Exactly what size tire are you going with? I'm using a 285/30/24 and not expecting anymore serious work to make them squat down on

I haven't yet decided but I was thinking about running as much sidewall as I can get, the dropmember limits by options depending on if I have to Z and by how much.

It will all have to be hashed out when I get everything mocked up and see where I'm at.

I know a lot of people are running a 265/35/22 which ends up around a 29" tall tire(which is what a normal truck/dropmember'd usually has). I really like LILJLOWRIDER's truck which has a 285/40/22 which coincidentally is the same as your 285/30/24 at 31".

Theoretically the larger sidewall 'should' ride better but we shall see. The 24"s do look better

But lighter than the wheels, 42 lbs.






After seeing a dropped square at Lowboy Motorsports with a CabnChassis width axle I might just use the SRW 14B as is. The CnC axle pulled the wheels in a little too far for my liking.

When I get some space in the garage I will mock up the SRW axle with adapters/semi wheels and take some measurements and compare them the to the fender width with pictures. I have to tear the SRW axle ends apart for disc brakes so I may mount the dually hubs on the SRW axle and make the CnC width axle and take some measurements with the semis for forum data.

I'm finally home and back to thinking about this thing constantly.

I am going to be ordering tires this week and I think I'm going with a 265/40r22. How is everyone getting these mounted? By hand or machine?

Still looking for a transmission and adapter to get the motor stuff lined up.

Yeah, I think you're right. I also was thankfully informed intercooler fitment is tougher with the suburban setup so that's a factor too.

My 88 R30 12 valve has the same front end as yours but Ken mounted the intercooler upside down and so I had to move my turn signal/parking lights. I eventually found and used a 81-82 front bumper with the turn signals/parking lights in the bumper.

I like the front end your thinking of putting in but I've seen where you have to carve up the back side of the headlights to make it work with the intercooler. I have one of those front ends that I may put in one one of my trucks one day. Just not at the top of my priority list right now.

It will only complicate an already complicated build without adding enough 'hot damn' factor to the build. The deal I found was for a whole front clip but the fenders are junk. HERE is a link to the ad.

I have enough to worry about at the moment with getting a suitable transmission along with a bunch of little pieces to make this engine more compatible with a 1-ton truck install. I may have found a bundled solution but we shall see.

4 of my tires showed up today.

Well after searching for a while for a good donor transmission I hit a road block and ended up finding a good deal on a whole wrecked truck. The best transmission option for my needs would be a 47RH from a cummins equipped dodge pickup. They made them in 94-95 and they are hydraulically control which means you don't need a computer. The OD and convertor lockup are still electronic but those are easy to wire up if you don't have the dodge bcm. You CAN use the 47rh from the v10 trucks but the convertor, valvebody and OD housing would need to be changed.

I thought about many other transmission like the 4l80e but they are almost all electronic which means I would need to either get the trans with the computer from the vehicle it came from or buy a pricey stand alone computer along with an expensive adapter to mate it to my engine. I have manual transmissions in almost every other project vehicle so this time I wanted to stay auto.

I got lucky and came across this truck locally, it is a 1994 3/4 dodge 2wd w/ a cummins and the 47rh trans with lower miles than my bus engine. It also has a lot of pieces I would have needed to make the bus engine fit like the exhaust manifold, all the intercooler equipment, air conditioning(nice to have), engine fan, motor mounts not to mention the transmission.


Plan is to start taking it apart for the stuff I want and the stuff I can sell and adapt the right parts from both engines like the Power-steering/air compressor from the bus will be reused on the truck engine.
