My good friend, Richard Miller, has opened a hot rod shop in Savannah, Ga. I'm sending my truck down to his shop for some upgrades that I'm not able to do due to my health. I have purchased the CPP rear spring kit that lowers the rear about three inches. My son gave me an 80 Trans Am posi/disk rear that my friend will install along with that setup. I also have a new Street Demon carb that I will also have him install. Somehow the disks and calipers went missing from my son's shop so I bought a kit from Speedway that has all new rotors, calipers, and hardware. I hope to be able to enjoy it by the end of this year but probably won't be able to do this work myself for a good while. Richard is extremely skilled and I'm happy that he is making time for my truck. BTW, spoke with him today, he's installing a Scott's suspension in a 1934 Buick. |

Re: Installing a Scott's bolt in suspension in a TF
Thanks Chuck. I have a form of cancer called Multiple Myeloma. Briefly, it weakens your bone structure and two of the vertebrae in my lower back have compressed, causing a lot of pain. I'm participating in a national clinical trial, looking for a cure or at least remission. I'm taking some powerful meds that hopefully will help but for now are just making me feel crazy.

Hope the trial can help you out. I'm recovering from back surgery, so I know what you mean about pain. I'm doing good now, but can't do much for awhile. Get well soon...Jim

Re: Installing a Scott's bolt in suspension in a TF
From a fellow Ga. boy/old guy, back pain is bad enough without the cancer and I truly am sorry to hear this and hope the best for you.
Does your buddy in Savannah have the expertise to put corvette suspension under my truck. As much as I would like to tackle this myself I lack the welding skills.

Re: Installing a Scott's bolt in suspension in a TF
2T, he has the expertise to do anything you want done. He has built many nice cars over the years but only this year decided to open a shop and do it full time. His profession up to current was boat building and repairs. I'm happy that he will be upgrading my truck since I can't do it and I know he will do it better and neater than I would.

I already purchased the FO weld in cross member and rear bolt in parts. If I decide to let someone else do mine I'll get his info. Thanks Russell.

Re: Installing a Scott's bolt in suspension in a TF
This came up in another thread but rather than hi-jack that one I am posting it here. Solidaxle was curious about the washer placement that sets the caster in the Scotts suspension. I have the bolt in setup which bolts directly to the frame. There is a channel section that fits inside the frame rail and it sandwiches the top of the rail between the crossmember flange so there is no way to set the angle of the cross member. This is how mine is set now that the rear of my truck is lowered.

Re: Installing a Scott's bolt in suspension in a TF
Forgot to mention this yesterday: Thank you all for your prayers and well-wishes for my cancer. I'm doing well and the cancer is in remission. I still have about six or eight months before the effects of the chemo and stem cell replacement wear off and I can hopefully get back to normal. Fortunately I can drive so I take the truck out about once a week for an attitude adjustment.

Re: Installing a Scott's bolt in suspension in a TF
Russell glad to hear your able to start enjoying your truck and your health is improving. Some days I'm ready to give in and turn my 57 project over to your buddy in Savannah. Other days I'm telling myself once all the other projects get finished ie, air compressor, plasma, welder, level floor etc. get done I'll be able to do most all myself. Is he still in business?--- Just in case!

Re: Installing a Scott's bolt in suspension in a TF
Thanks everyone for the well wishes.
2tractors, yes, he's very much still in business. He just purchased a second lift for the shop, he has hired a helper who is a very experienced car builder himself, and he now has people waiting to get in. |
