Re: 68 GMC K2500 Redo
The original bedsides were just too bad to fix. So, I bought new ones from Mar-K. Great company and excellent quality. We were able to salvage both original fenders with a lot of work.

Re: 68 GMC K2500 Redo
Used the instructions from Mar-K to reassemble the bed. Went together with only a few small problems. I ordered Alaska Yellow Ceder raw wood from Oregon and milled it down to the right size. It should last about 100 years. The tailgate is a NOS out of the box. Cost me $250, but it was perfect.

Re: 68 GMC K2500 Redo
I bought new GM repo seat belts. They only came in black. The hood was not in very good shape, but we made it work. Still looking for a perfect 68 hood. This is a one year hood, plus no trim holes. Very hard to find.

Finished product. Had a professional photographer shoot the truck for a special price of $200. See what you think. Here is the link.

Great restoration & pics! The $200 was well worth it! I've never been a big GMC fan- but your truck is sharp- looks like it's ready to go to work

Re: 68 GMC K2500 Redo
Beautiful truck! I, too, liked the Chevys a little more until I bought a '71 GMC k1500. I think I now like the GMC grille better than the Chevys - looks more rugged and business-like.

Re: 68 GMC K2500 Redo
Attention to detail is evident - super nice.
Also glad you kept the six. Not a common engine all in all but one of the best IMHO. Thanks for sharing.

Just right. There is nothing to detract from the original perfection achieved with this line of trucks, a soulful tribute in a commercial truck color

Re: 68 GMC K2500 Redo
Wow! Looks FANTASTIC.
Do the 60-68 tow hooks open to the front as shown? The later models don't so am curious.

Re: 68 GMC K2500 Redo
what a beautiful resto. Very very nice. That's a great example how to do it right.
...but at $2,800 for the original truck, I fail to see why that wasn't a phenomenal deal for what you got. Up here you couldn't touch that truck for that price. |

Re: 68 GMC K2500 Redo
Soooo, yeah pretty funny about the transfer case shifter but, seriously where did you put it? I don't see any holes in your new carpet for it...I just bought an NV4500 for mine so just wondering how you approached the shifter problem. Oh, I'm really likin' your truck nice (lots of) work, love the tall skinnies.
