Dropped spindles with Truck rallys

Here is a pic from Chevy_Mike's thread.
As you can see, the balljoint is very close to the inside edge of the rotor.
This would make sense if the Modulars do bring the wheels in.

Great picture...thanks for posting it. I'm wondering how much clearance there is between the ball joint and rotor....and is it even workable. I'm also noticing the distance of the spindle itself (where in mounts to the ball joint) and the rotor...even closer. Some clearancing of the a-arms or tubular arms would be in order also. Would be nice to know if this setup is working for Chevy_Mike.

I wish I could give you an answer on my Panel project but it still is not on the road. I did have them on my '65 C10 truck (link in sig) and I used the same modular spindles and drove it for 3 years with zero problems. These are all I will use.

IIRC, my truck was 15x7 slot mags with a 3.5" BS. I ran a 235.70-15 tire.

I was hoping you'd have gotten your modulars by now. Oh well, this is the week many Vendor's are having their sales. So before the sales are up, I will be purchasing modulars from somebody. Buying directly from Cpp doesn't seem to have changed after all these years. They still give about a rat's azz if their customers have a positive experience.

OK..recieved the modular spindles (CP30106-2 63-70 C10) and took some measurements. I measured with a machine rule first to verify the tape measure would be accurate enough for the pictures.....its a little difficult to take the pics while i'm holding the tape in place so I did the best I could. Measurements are from the center of the lbj joint hole to the surface of the rotor and then from the same rotor surface to the hub mounting surface. These are approx.

Std dropped spindle:
2 3/8 (center lbj hole to bott of rotor) + 2 7/8 (bott of rotor to hub mount face) = 5 1/4"

Mod dropped spindle:
2 -2 1/16 (center lbj hole to bott of rotor) + 2 7/8 (bott of rotor to hub mount face) = just somewhere under 5"

Stock drum (with the drum tightened down...rim mount surface a little uneven so approx measure is
4 5/8 - 4 3/4 (center of lbj to drum mount surface) Again, the drum surface is a little crowned.
Used a straightedge, and plumb bob on center of lbj. Pics are from driver side but I checked pass side also and got the same.

I noticed when finding the center of the lbj hole that they are of a different size than the std spindle. After some searching I'm at the conclusion that these modulars mount to the stock ball joints and tie rods. Guess I wont be using these items from the kit.

Just for grins and giggles(approx with machine rule):
ubj - modular 1/32 smaller (outside), 1/16 larger (inside) than the std.
lbj - modular 1/8 larger (inside), 1/16 larger (outside) than the std.
Steering arm/tie rod - modular 1/8 smaller top and bottom than the std. Also has recess around the hole where the std has a flat surface.

So it would seem that the std spindles would move the wheel out 1/2"+ and the modulars would move out +/- 1/4" from drum on a 64 C10. Now i'm more confused as I thought the modulars are supposed to move the wheel in....but maybe only for later C10 and not 1st gen trucks.

Your numbers make sense, and jive with what I figured from posts in these forums.
The Standard CPP Drop Spindle does not move the wheels out with relation to stock discs, but does going from drums.
The CPP Modular Drop Spindle move the wheels in with relation to stock discs, but still out with relation to drums.
As has always been understood; Stock discs widen the track width 3/4" over drums.

I went ahead and ordered my Modulars from Summit.
Because of the Sale they're having this week, I got them with the caliper bracket for $336 shipped.

So, we here in the 60-66 forum should add 1/2" out from the chart below.
Wheel moves out roughly 1/4" going from drum to CPP Modular Drop Spindle.
Wheel moves out roughly 9/16" going from drum to CPP Standard Drop Spindle.

'63-70 C10 CP30106-2, narrow 1/4" '....it seems that is the opposite of what i'm finding....from stock drums...which BTW I am diligently looking for so I can keep mine on my truck for now. I can't find a number stamped or casted in
the modular spindles. How do you know if they sent you the
correct ones?

Good point. No casting#'s on mine either. I'm going by the part# on the invoice and the size of the holes for the bj's and tie rods. So far they LOOK correct but I'm not going to be able to get started on this project until after the holidays so I guess I can't be sure until then. Now I'm wondering if ANY of their modular spindles have any identifiers on them. ****ty way to produce a product if you ask me, and confuses the issue even more.

Some pics of mine...wondering if yours also have a recess on the steering arm where the tie rod attaches? Let me know if you need more measurements to compare.

I test fitted the upper and lower ball joints.
I'm not sure if these are fitting properly.
I have nothing to compare them to.

Where does the hole for the cotter pin sit with the nut on? Your upper ball joint looks right as the hole is in the right location with the nut but I can't tell on the lower one. From what I see, it looks right.

Can you tell me what the part# is on your invoice ?(mine is CP30106-2, 63-70 C10) I don't know why the steering arms are machined differently...yours aren't recessed like mine are. The shape of the arm looks different also. I believe the 65-66 uses a different outer tire rod end (Moog ES350L?), but I would think the spindle is the same. I'm waiting for my new bjs and tie rods to arrive so I can check the fit and compare. Here are the part#'s:

UBJ-Moog K6024
LBJ-Moog K6023
Outer TR - Moog ES323L
Inner TR - Moog ES678

I'm sending the pics to CPP so they can tell me why they are different.

OK I see....I missed your note about 73-87... thought you ordered the same ones I received...that might explain the difference in the steering arm. Any reason your converting to 73-87 parts instead of using the stock suspension parts?

Also, USUALLY if you can get the nut all the way on and have some threads left above the nut you should be OK.

I debated much about this.
My 65 is on a 62 frame.
I didn't want to go with the 62 ball joints and tie rods do to the cost.
So I got the whole front suspension off a 74.
I figured as long as I was going to use a newer suspension, I might as well go with the more readily available 73-87 parts.
