Got the engine set in place, also. I've got a few issues to work through, though. The HEI distributor is too close to the fire wall. When I took the truck apart, I did not realize how far back the engine sits on these 4 wheel drive trucks. Also, the headers have a clearance issue with my clutch linkage. I guess that's hot rodding, though, right.

Thanks, it was definitely a lot of work and a learning experience. Really glad I decided to go with a wood bed now. My original intent for this truck was to make it a good driver and use as a truck...but I'm not sure I want to put anything in the bed now lol

That wood floor looks awesome !!! The oak with the SS strips & the green just really Pop together ! I was considering doing the same on my project, but my steel floor was not rusted out, just needed some dent pulled so I kept it. Plus it was going to cost $1,200 or so to swap over and I have too much into the truck now !!!! "LOL"

Thanks, yea my steel bed floor was shot. Amazingly enough, a new steel bed floor was higher than doing the Mar-K steel to wood conversion.

So what did the conversion kit consist of ?
Did you have to replace thr rear sill and the front bed panel ?
I imagine all the supports under the wood.

i really love the wood floor too. my K20 was an original wood floor and i had decided to run steel due to some complications with other things i had done with the truck dictating i do so. some things have changed and now i am wondering if i should go with wood...

Here is a link to the conversion kit. I want to say I'm in it for around $800.00 total with the wood. The kit came with a new front bed panel, all new cross sills, and the associated hardware. You will then need to buy the bed strip and hardware kit for the bed strips. If you purchase the wood through them it will be a little more.

i have the original front bulkhead panel and sills from my OE wood bed. i need a new rear cross sill due to the rust monster. Mar-k looks to be a great source and i am happy to send some money to people making parts in country. i think ill have my PC guy do the sills so they hopefully stay nice for a while.

i was looking at all the exotic wood available thinking about how cool it would look, but for my truck i think pine and black steel strips is good enough. i just cant decide if i want to finish the wood so it looks like wood, or just go with the black paint over sealed boards thing. if i have it finished, ill have to recruit help. when i touch lumber everything goes wrong...

Been a little slow over the holidays but here are a few updated pictures.

Looking for the ring to hold the boot for shifter if anyone knows where we could find one it would be helpful.

Didn't see the boot rings listed for your year, but unless they changed the shape of the boot on the 4-spd, maybe this will work?

Thanks, I'm not sure either...the one he has looks round from photo above but this one ^ looks oval.

Very nice truck btw! I think your right it appears to be round rather than oval so I went to the LMC catalog also and their pic in the 67-72 catalog appeared to be round also. The ring does not appear to be round from the drawing so I would call first but it did have a different part number listed from what rgunlock posted earlier.

Few more updates...

-I got the fans installed on the radiator and got everthing installed in the truck then wired up the switch and relay.
-Dad helped me get the breaks bled last weekend.
-I found some Hedmann shorty headers that clear my clutch linkage. I'm pretty happy with them actually. The flange is a lot thicker than my last set and should seal well to the heads.
-Most of the wiring is finished, just a few odds and ends to finish up.

I still need to figure out the rest of the exhaust. It seems no one offers a direct fit kit for a 4wd truck, and I would like to go ahead and do it myself. I may just go with a universal kit that way I can route it the way I want. Shouldn't be too much longer until we can hear this thing run. Been a long wait and I can't wait to fire it up!

Thank you, I am really happy I decided on this color, also. The faded original medium olive paint on my last truck looked good, and after seeing it freshly painted, I couldn't be happier.

Progress was slow over Holidays but here are some updates.

Got it running on Sunday, started right up, no issues. Just a little more tuning to get fuel curve right, this sounds way better in person than video....

Replaced the distributor with a nice Mallory piece made for the fuel injection. This one doesn't have clearance issues either cause of small cap.

Sean did exhaust himself with a kit from Jegs... I think it looks great.





Skid plate installed, bought from a member here.



Shorty headers, the long tube ones didn't work with clutch linkage.
