Re: Chevy Performance Crate Motors - Dealers That Dyno?
I did look at the Chevy Performance roller motors. I know it may sound crazy to some, but I'm done with electric fuel pumps. Since I have a rear mounted fuel tank I run an external electric on mine now, and I've been through the noise (Holley Red) and failure after only 4 hours ($200 Edelbrock) enough I'll never deal with it again.
For the $650, I did consider going the route of retro hydraulic lifters and a roller cam, but got concerned about pushrod length, stock valve springs, etc. Plus, finding a good roller cam with retro roller lifters for very mild performance, and more torque using stock internals doesn't seem too easy. For what I use the truck for (just driving the tires off of it and shows), I don't need a ton of performance. From the vast majority of feedback here, it sound like the exception, and not the norm, for cams to go away on virtually stock motors with a proper 20-30 minute run. After break-in, I have no problem running quality, $8.00 a quart oil to ensure it lives a long life. I think I'll just pull the trigger on the Jegs deal, and use the $650 to get some accessories like brackets to relocated the AC and Alternator, and save up for a Vintage Air conversion to really clean up under the hood. I will bring the thread back up once the truck gets it's heart transplant... Thanks; I do appreciate the info. |
