I went with 265/35/r22 - little more common but taller set up than ghernandez

Just to chime in here with spacer and tire sizing...
Just finished making it possible to fit these on my 64.

Tires: 285-40-22 (all 4)
Static drop:
Front: 2.5" drop spindles / 2" drop springs
Rear: 5" drop springs / 2" drop blocks

Front mounting:
Disc brake conversion up front: Has the correct size hub dia. for these wheels
(Orig front drum "centric hub" on the drum is too large for these wheels and either a spacer is needed or opening up the bore on the wheel is needed)

Rear mounting:
I was given some 1-1/2" spacers for the rear. SO I used them of course.
(I would suggest a 1" or even a 1-1/4" at the most ****STEP SIDE BED*****)



Now all of that said... I love the look of filled out wheel wells. (width wise as well as diameter wise)

Its because of this and the fact that my spacers were given to me, that I ran the 1-1/2" spacers in the rear. I have roughly 5/8" between the inside of my tire (285-40-22) and the bed side (STEP SIDE BED).

I had to make adjustable fender struts to push the fenders off of the outer edge of the tire. I needed roughly a 1/4" to get off the tire, but adjusted it out about a half inch total, leaving a very tight 1/4" gap.

The front tires with the mentioned static drop will turn lock to lock with no clearance issues. The closest item to touching is the manual steering gear box. I also have a CPP sway bar and it clears that just fine as well.

Where I am closest and have rubbed (under full compression from large bump in the road) is to the floor board at nearly full lock at either side. The other place it is very close is at full lock in the center of the fender opening (fender lip). At full lock I can barely get my pinky finger between the tire and fender. This just causes me to enter driveways a lot slower, but hasn't been a major issue.

I have always had a "muscle truck vibe with my truck and wanted to keep it. Hence my tire choice. I feel I manged to keep the "tough" look I like.

Adjustable fender struts (1 in front of the tire, and 1 behind the tire) This is the passenger side looking from the back of the truck.

There's a guy in instagram that's selling clip kits so you can install hubcaps on transit wheels they seem to have great positive feedback I got a set but haven't installed it yet.

Still need to paint and add caps, but it's driving.

IDK if this has been mentioned, but i didnt read. It says right on the rim that its not meant for road use.

They are stamped DOT,... but I don't know if that's good enough for everyone.

Let ask you I just bought the 22" gm transport wheels, I have 65 c10, and the thing the wheels won't feet the fronts the center of the wheels is to small and I don't know if fitz on the back, so what you did on yours to fit weel like that ? Can you please explain to me what you did on yours ?

Hello, hey man how did make it to fit on ur truck, I have a 65 c10 and I just got the 22" gm transport wheels but the wheels won't feet on the front, the center hole on the rims is to small for the hub and I don't know about the back. So can you explain to me how you did to make it fit ? Thanks man!!

I did a disc brake conversion in the front and used the spacers mentioned and for the rear you will need the rear tubs out for this and if your bagged also the front inners..

I used spacers for rear. I also had to take out the stepside inner fender support rods and flare the fender out a little. Old school wooden baseball bat rolled style. Will post spacer pic.

I inquired at our local GM dealer and the parts manager told me these wheels were required to be made unusable by orders from GM, something to do about a pending lawsuit?? Once removed from the vehicle being transported they had to be drilled or cut up and disposed of.

I know this is an older thread but my hope is by now some more people have done this and some clarification can be had. I have a 1970 C10 long bed fleetside with a static 3/5 drop (so not super low) I have a set of these transports waiting to go on but I wanted to get the research side done before I tried anything. I have power drums front and rear. My questions are has anyone run this setup on the 67-72 trucks (the earlier posts just addressed earlier models) and what was needed to accomplish this setup if you do have them on your 67-72? Secondly with just the 3/5 drop will I have to eliminate front inner fenders? Wheel tubs in the rear? Thanks for any help here

I am running these on my '68 with a 4/7 drop. First of all you have to have the centers of the wheels bored to fit over the hubs on the 4 wheel drums. For the fronts, I am running 265/35s and have not had to do any clearancing (stock fenders and inners). I have not bottomed out or rubbed at all, but if I were to go any lower (which I plan to) I will have to do some modifications for clearance. In the rear, you can't run the stock transit because it has too much backspacing. You can either run a 1.25" to 1.5" adapter spacer like everyone above had to do, or flip the center of the wheel and change the backspacing. I changed the backspacing on mine to 4" but it did require a bit of clearancing to make it work. A more conservative backspacing would be 4.25", and with a 5" drop you should be fine and require no modifications.
