Re: 1978 2wd Blazer
Cool, another one saved and getting up grades.
My 79 had a non - safe powered pump right up front (key on) to prime. problem was a line leak. back to stock now,my 78K doesn't have the stock pump return, 79CK does. I've used a flaring kit to create a bump in the end of the steel line to help hold the rubber FI hose/camp.

Re: 1978 2wd Blazer
Covered the tank in bed liner. Fitted the fuel pump. Had to massage the 5/16 fitting on the return line. Waiting for crimp clamps for the nylon fuel lines. Need a few clamps for the filler neck connections an a piece of 1 3/8 hose. Hope to get all that squareday away this afternoon. ..

Re: 1978 2wd Blazer
Its a DIY product, but I cheated and had someone else do it. I just didn't want to mess with it.

Re: 1978 2wd Blazer
Ran the fuel lines from the pump to an inline fuel filter with GM quick connect fittings... then up to the bypass regulator...

Re: 1978 2wd Blazer
Installed a Lokar throttle cable bracket and a cheap Auto-Loc throttle cable. The new aluminum manifold won't allow the TH350 kickdown cable bracket to be mounted on the last two hole without filing down a piece of the manifold. I'll take some pics of that later...

Re: 1978 2wd Blazer
I set up three relays, one will be for the fuel pump. I was going to run the other two for the headlights, but it would be better if they were on the other fender. There is also a 175 amp main fuse block. The feed wire is overkill for what I need. No computer controlled engine or big stereo, besides it's not long enough to reach the fuse block. I'll probably downsize...
Oh, and don't mind the missing AC box... I can only assume that they cracked it during the engine swap and just ripped it out.. |

Re: 1978 2wd Blazer
So I picked up a Chevy Lumina EURO steering wheel from the junk yard because its GM, its Blue and it was an upgrade from the original worn out wheel.... I didn't know it would be that far off in color.... I also picked up a Lecarra wheel from fleabay... Not sure what will be the final wheel...

Re: 1978 2wd Blazer
Although I just got a replacement starter from the local parts store, I my go and try and try and exchange it for a OE gear reduction mini starter....

Re: 1978 2wd Blazer
Looks good. If that lumina wheel were a couple shades closer it would have my vote.

Re: 1978 2wd Blazer
The smaller starter needs shorter bolts. After some research I came up with GM part number 12338064 which is 3/8-16 at 4.33 in length.
If they work with the new mini starter, I want to get some Ram Horn manifolds to replace the cheap trashed headers that were on there when I bought the Blazer... Two styles that I was looking at... |

Re: 1978 2wd Blazer
Here is a quick comparison shot of the bolts next to the new starter. I managed to get the blazer running. I need to go through the cooling system and add an exhaust. I may just run the cheap headers for now. The original radiator looks rough so I may go with a Champion radiator. I picked up a trans cooler from the junk yard too so I need to figure out how to plumb that in as well....

Re: 1978 2wd Blazer
I have been cleaning up the wiring. Ran a new wire to feed the battery to the fuse block via the terminal on the firewall next to the brake booster. New wire to the starter. Need to find a switched power source in the engine bay to power the relay for the fuel pump.
Finally, I need to figure out the wiring to the newer style alternator. There are 4 terminals but I bought a pigtail with three wires... I just don't know what they feed... edit: found this info and the I could be an F P= Used to drive a tachometer (Mostly for Diesels) L= To Indicator Lamp I= Used To Excite Alternator S= Sensing Wire Last edited by mcmlxix; 11-13-2015 at 02:30 AM. |

Re: 1978 2wd Blazer
I'm far off from buying new wheels but I think I have decided on a wheel... It will look good with the truck as is in flat black primer and I hope to paint it Blue with a white top and side with mouldings...

Re: 1978 2wd Blazer
Not much to update. I ordered pre bent trans cooler lines from Jegs. Ordered some high temp silicone/fiberglass insulation from fleabay to cover my nylon fuel lines. I did run the motor for a minute but I have no water in the radiator and the headers dump next to my fuel line.... I really want 2.5" ram horn manifolds but I don't want to spend money I don't NEED to....
Still need to find key-on switched power in the engine compartment to power the fuel pump relay. |

Re: 1978 2wd Blazer
Yeah. I was getting impatient waiting for the body guy to finish... Even after he's finished... I'll need custom front drive shaft. Build some front and rear bumpers and custom rear hitch mount. Top wasn't touched, maybe a soft top instead. I want to add some LED lights and need to finish the stereo.... All that is going to cost more than the 78 based on my evil plans....

Re: 1978 2wd Blazer
I had a few calls and only one serious buyer but only offered $2k.... am I asking for too much? I took all the risk. It now runs. I finished the trans cooler lines and changed the fluid and filter. Moved a few feet on its own in the driveway. I hardly ever see any 2wd Blazers on CL for sale....
