Re: The Circuit Rider and Hagerty Follow Up.

Gee Dewayne,
Sorry to hear about your truck. I have Hagerty insurance on my Plymouth, so I'm very curious as to how they take care of their insured. Hopping all works out well in the end for you.

If you're on a 4-lane interstate at 4PM on Wednesday because you are and have been commuting to work, it's not a speciality vehicle anymore, it's a commuter. That's different.

I don't think they're nearly as restrictive as people think; then again, some people will take advantage of it, driving an old car as their daily vehicle and insuring it as a collector car.
I had Haggerty for a while, and when the value of the truck needed to increase because of the work put into it, I started asking a lot of questions about the coverage. They started asking a lot of questions back, which I understand, but some of it got crazy.

Their biggest sticking point on it was they could see the EZ Pass in the windshield in one of the pics. Everything around me is tolls. I have to pay a bridge toll to go to the body shop I use. I have EZ Pass on everything I own, including my motorcycle. They had real heartburn over the EZ Pass, and basically tried to call me a liar and say I was commuting with the truck.

We discussed allowable/acceptable mileage in a year, and they very much made it sound like anything over 1000 miles was a big negative to them.

After the 3rd degree and the general attitude problem, I decided to shop elsewhere.

Re: The Circuit Rider and Hagerty Follow Up.

Also, FWIW, I have had massively different stories talking to 2 different people in the same office with some insurance companies. When i set up my current policy with American Modern, the first guy went over the questionnaire I had filled out. One section was "Is the vehicle modified". I checked yes, and noted that it has been changed from a straight 6 3-speed to a V-8 5 speed. In my mind, that is a significant modification. The agent went over it, and asked if it was turbo charged, supercharged, or over 500 HP. I stated no on all 3. He said, ok, as far as we are concerned its not modified.

2 weeks after the policy was issued, I get a different guy calling me saying they have to change the rate because the truck is modified. The VIN states 6 cylinder and the photos and description clearly show a V-8. I said no $hit, I told you guys that up front. I think the difference was about $20/year, so it wasn't a huge thing, but it irked me. I got pretty rude with the guy over it, since I specifically noted it and was specifically told its a non issue by the other agent.

They were still the better price for the coverage, so I stuck with them. Haven't had to use them yet, but I have heard good things from other customers.

Anyways, wouldn't surprise me at all if the Haggerty guy was feeding me a line of crap.

Are trucks covered by insurance companies if they are being pulled on a trailer and get destroyed in a wreck? The truck that I'm building has a 8 inch lift kit on it and it is against the law of some states to drive on the highway so they must be trailered.

If you are towing your truck to a show - I would think you are ok - but - always ask verses assume.

My experience with Hagerty so far has been excellent with no issues.

Re: The Circuit Rider and Hagerty Follow Up.

Good descusion here, gives me a few questions for Grundy. They do have a lot of restrictions but I usually only do joy rides. So it seems to fit my purpose and the rate is only a fraction of my normal ins. Thanks all

That depends. Usually whatever is in tow is covered by the tow vehicle's insurance. With a classic, that could get muddy concerning the value of the classic.

Re: The Circuit Rider and Hagerty Follow Up.

I have actually asked my insurance guy about this a few years ago when I was moving. The way he explained it is this.

If you are hit by another vehicle then you are covered. But if the vehicle falls off of the trailer it is considered a " collision" between the trailered vehicle and the ground and is not covered by the tow vehicles insurance.

Ended up with Hagerty and haven't had to use it and I hope I never will. But Lattimer's 3rd degree comment reminded me of one of my conversations with a Hagerty rep when I was applying. I had sent them a photo of my truck sitting outside my garage. After applying, paying, etc, Hagerty rep called me and said their underwriter needed to see a picture of the truck in the garage because he thought it wouldn't fit. Really? Sent him one with it in the garage just to let the underwriter sleep that night.

I used to believe you really lived there, but now I know it's an elaborate fantasy. Next you'll be getting in to see your doctor promptly!

I had nothing -but- grief with SGI (I think it was SGIO in the day). We had a "stated value" policy on my 2+2 which was totalled and they offered $2K on a $10K stated value, which is why (again) you don't want stated value.

After arguing for months I got the 8K needed to repair it, but what were the higher premium for then if not this very case? It made no sense.

Granted it got better when they opened claims centers in the south and east, but I've been gone 25 years or more (so I'm not talking about today's SGI either, I guess, to be fair).

As I said in my post, in the 80's and 90's Stated Value meant nothing and you can't blame SGI(O) because you didn't ask enough questions ( but I did ) when you bought the policy.
