Re: What would you do?
I run a 16" electric puller fan on my pickup, it has a 468 BBC. I build a shroud, and run the fan on a switch that I turn on after the truck warms up. I had cooling issues with he clutch fan, and all that went away with the E-fan.
My big block Nova had the same issues until I went to an E-fan and shroud setup. |

Re: What would you do?
I see. I guess the shroud is the best place to start then explore puller fans if not successful.
Regarding t-stats, I get that it opens at 180 (mine does) but after that, does it stay open or keep adjust based on temp? I have looked at them but have always wondered because ALL people I have met in the old days have said pulling the t-stat won't solve over-heating but it ALWAYS did. Not saying it was a good temp to run at but it always did. When I am running 200 is the t-stat all the way open? (The people who said pulling the stat said it would result in all of the coolant getting hot and over-heating but that just never happened.) |

Re: What would you do?
I wouldn't even take time to worry about anything else except the shroud. I would bet that the shroud fixes your problem 100% because of the way you have described things

Re: What would you do?
However... if it's the original 40 year old radiator that has never been serviced... then even a shroud won't help much. If it's the old stocker, you might have to have it rodded out or have the core replaced.
