Re: The Chevrolet and GMC Hubcap thread

Those are the 1955 and 1956 style hubcaps. They should have Blue centers. Cant tell if half or 3/4 ton but the sizes for both are posted in the very 1st post. 7 5/8 inside for half and 8 3/4 inside for 3/4 ton.

Re: The Chevrolet and GMC Hubcap thread

In the truck data books, if you purchased a Pure White (55-63) or White (64-66) it came with a Pure/ White Bumpers, Grilles & Hubcaps.
There are no listings in the Parts Books differentiating between the Pure/ White hubcaps, bumpers or grilles and the standard Cameo ( 60-63)/ Off-White ( 64-66 ) parts.
Should we assume that these Pure / White trucks and parts were painted together at the factory?
Have you ever come across a Pure/ White truck or the matching parts?

Re: The Chevrolet and GMC Hubcap thread

Great thread 60-66. You've done the impossible, getting all the different styles caps in this era in one thread! There are some caps in those photos I never though existed, namely the 60 GMC painted cap ( white and blue trim with white hash marks) and the GMC 4x4 caps with red trim.

Good point, you really had no way of knowing what shade of white you were getting from the GM parts guys back in the day.

That white GMC cap with the hash marks , wondering if that is Canadian ? I have not seen another cap like that one and its the only one I have. Does anyone have 1960 GMC Canadian literature ? Aero ? GMC Canada parts book ? The NOS GMC 4x4 hubcap came through a member here !!

That's a fact ! One I would like to add to the post but a little hard to find good examples for pictures to show the slight color difference.

You would think if there were Off White and White hubcaps they'd be listed differently.

Re: The Chevrolet and GMC Hubcap thread

I can barely read that Aero. ( even with my glasses on ) . Looks like a 1966 printing . Anything in books around 1960-1963 GMC ? Just asking cause some numbers may have been dropped or changed by 1966. I haven't had time to get all the US GMC numbers yet but will get my magnifying glasses out and compare. THANK YOU !!

Yes, I helped Arthur Throckmorton with some of his research on his thread but I'm strictly talking about the WHITE painted hubcap with the blue squares and white hash marks that are painted in, that white hubcap does not have the raised dividers like your chrome one your posting. heres both , the solid blue ring is the more common 60-61 GMC cap.

Ok , that's the same number in the 1963 GMC US book. Might be something they didn't use a different part number for again like white paints hubcaps ?

Re: The Chevrolet and GMC Hubcap thread

Well don't yell at me, I'm not the one who bought the dam thing! lol

I looked in an earlier Canadian parts book that goes to 64 and the numbers are the same.
I have a copy of the 60-66 GMC illustrations book but there's no illustrations for hubcaps listed.
The Canadian Parts Book ( Chevrolet and GMC combined ) only illustrates Chevrolets, though they share the same group numbers, they do not have any GMC illustrations.

Re: The Chevrolet and GMC Hubcap thread

Usually if the part shares the same part number they list it as 60-61 for example. On the parts book pages they break it down year by year.
I wonder if there is a superseded number that is not noted and they would ask you to rework the new number?
Solid stripe verses the serrated.

Re: The Chevrolet and GMC Hubcap thread

Wow, this thread is really turning to a course in advanced hubcap studies. I don't have any parts book info, just lifetime observations. The chrome 60-61 GMC 1/2 and 3/4 ton caps were carry over '59 styling, but with blue trim and hash marks. Painted '60 1/2 and 3/4 ton caps were carryover 59 styling also with blue trim paint with white hash marks. 61 1/2 and 3/4 ton painted caps no longer had hash marks, they were smoothies with a solid continuous blue ring. IMO, the '60 painted caps must be pretty rare, or GMC changed the tooling early in the model year to the more commonly seem smoothie style.

Re: The Chevrolet and GMC Hubcap thread

Brain boggled a bit on the years and various changes, but those smoothie caps with white painted-on hash marks merely look like the same die was used for painting of the caps that had separating ridges. Ya think?
