Im in the process of putting a tilt mid 70's Camaro column in my 55, I notched the firewall "up" towards the cowl, slid it as far down towards the frame as I could. It gives it a better angle for more foot room and you dont have to tilt it as much... I will try and get some pics soon!

Yuk... Thanks... What about putting a 55 wheel on instead? Any mods required? Will it give more room?
