Re: Haggerty Insurance turned me down
I also use AAA and they gave me no problems. They took photos of the truck, engine, and the truck parked in the garage. Had a temp policy with temp cards right there and the full policy with new cards the following week. Also, it was half the price of Hagerty.

Re: Haggerty Insurance turned me down
Hagerty doesn't have horsepower limits, so this thread is a bit deceptive.
They just won't allow you to insure a heavily modified vehicle in their cheaper "unmodified" category. Insure the vehicle as "street rod/modified', which is what it is, and everyone will be happy. But you won't and shouldn't get the same rates as my exhaust-manifold wearing, choke-having, heat-stove equipped truck.

Re: Haggerty Insurance turned me down
I had a claim with Grundy a few years ago. The claim was paid within 10 days. I've been with them for over 15 years and currently have 3 vehicles insure with them.

Re: Haggerty Insurance turned me down
Is AAA writing "Agreed Value" policies? You'd better check.

Re: Haggerty Insurance turned me down
I have been with Grundy about 15 years. I currently insure 4 trucks with them, all modified one way or another. Had my first claim last year when a tree fell on my shop. No hassle no guestions. 2 trucks were damaged, money in my hand in less than 2 weeks... = happy customer

Re: Haggerty Insurance turned me down
Try Grundy. They are alot cheaper than Haggerty. There is no need to brag to them how much hp you have, they don't ask anyways. Plus you are insuring on an agreed value. The more you think your truck is worth, the higher the premium. All they asked me for was a couple pictures.

Re: Haggerty Insurance turned me down
My policy is an agreed value type with AAA. They asked what I have into the truck and fully insured the truck for that value. Only limitation being it cannot be driven more than 5,000 miles per year. This is to meet the AAA classic vehicle requirement for this area.

Re: Haggerty Insurance turned me down
Insurance companies are not dumb....
I think what is probably happening is that they have been 'hit' enough times in either payouts or by people wanting full value payout on collector based stuff that they now know how to figure you out. When you look behind a lot of this you will find a lot of guys who try to get away with the absolute cheapest insurance they can possibly get away with....until something is stolen or wrecked, then they want it all paid for in spades. As stated if you want to get full value for your truck or loss...then find a company who understands your trucks full, true value paint, trim to motor, etc and then, fully disclose and agree on a replacement cost.....then be prepared to pay for that expensive, premium insurance. Simple..... Coley

Re: Haggerty Insurance turned me down
FWIW, I just picked up a Hagerty policy for my '67. I did this by phone. Within 5 minutes I had a policy and within the next 10 I had the email with the temporary verification as well.
This was a named value policy ( the `value` I put on it is what I have in it: >20k ) and something like 100k/200k for property and injury, uninsured motorist, 1500 work of spare garage parts, unlimited usage of towing ( 60miles/per paid ) and roadside assistance. The only questions asked, aside from the usual year/make/model: Is it stock? Is it your daily driver? What is your daily driver? Will you participate in race or timed events? How many miles a year will you drive? How many licensed drivers in the house? Who will be drivers? Any tickets or accidents over last 3 years? They required the drivers license numbers of all the licensed drivers in the house. Also, with my DL# and info, they were able to pull up via some source that there were indeed only two licensed drivers in my house. With that info came the DL# of my wife without my giving it to them. Because I divulged garage-kept, my own residence, only drive on nice days to shows, meets and drive-ins and what not before he had a chance to ask questions, the list was probably shorter than it would have been. I told the guy it wasn't really stock, that it had been modernized as far as engine, trasmission and some comfort stuff in the cab. I did not mention specifics like HP, CID or cost. Also told him that it's got upgraded brakes and suspension for ride/handling/safety, again no specifics. Definitely let him know that the truck isn't close to stock original. No issue at all and the price, well... I have no frame of reference other than the coverage I was paying for it through Allstate. The Hagerty premium is only slightly more than what Allstate was charging me. I'm very pleased with that. I could have said no to the 1500 spare parts coverage, towing and such for 60 bucks/year. That said, the 60 bucks is a pretty good percentage of the overall premium, if that tells you anything! -klb

Re: Haggerty Insurance turned me down
I had no idea AAA covered classic cars/trucks. We have our cars, and home with AAA and didn't even think about asking. Do they offer agreed value? Would really like to have one company.

I thought the mileage limits they impose would be a problem but in the three-four years I've had it, I doubt I've hit 500 miles any given year. It's a running joke with my wife that every time I complete a major upgrade/project (usually taking months), I'll drive it two weeks and then immediate tear it apart again for the next upgrade. I'm wearing out my jackstands faster than my tires.

Re: Haggerty Insurance turned me down
From my experience the company asks the value, you tell them, and they price your policy accordingly. No questions on how I came up with that value. Show a few pictures, give your value, pay for insurance. Claim higher value/pay higher premium. One reason I have Haggerty is because they have no mileage limitations.
My Harley has been insured for $30k for almost 25 years. I never showed pictures, just stated the value based on what I saw bikes of same caliber going for...back then! They have no idea if it's been a dedicated show bike all these years or been rode hard and put away wet. I now I'd be lucky to get $10k for it in today's market, but the policy still states value at $30k. I figure if it came down to a claim, that is when they tell me what the bike is worth...today. They may not pay out the amount on the policy, but it's cheap and the high value policy should allow for repairs no matter the cost.
