Re: Where do I cut this fender?
Pardon my noobness - I see that the fender cup patch panel is too small (I mean how do they even DO that?!?) but what about buying a complete re-pop fender and trimming off the front piece? Is that a better fit?

Re: Where do I cut this fender?
I would take a template and cut it out of the cup you just cut out, if its in good enough shape.

This is what I'm thinking I'll do. Looks to be the easiest way and simpliest way of adding the patch.

Re: Where do I cut this fender?
I had a conversation with GMCPauls via email, because I trust that they know what's what more than most vendors. I was pleased with the informative and professional response: "The front fender cups only made by 1 manufacturer and have the same issues. A lot of fender cups aren't rusted out from front to rear of cup and on those we recommend just cutting out rusted portion then cut in to repair panel vertically to get the front or most commonly rear section needed to perform the repair. "
So, until somebody tools up a better part, the guidance folks are giving here in this thread make this thread something great to bookmark. Thanks to the experienced folks on this forum for helping us understand how deal with stuff like this and answering questions. I have not begun dealing with this area of my truck yet, but now I feel more confident for when I get to that part. |

Re: Where do I cut this fender?
I ended up cutting the spot welds out of the cup and welding the whole cup into place and it looks like it worked just fine. Only time will tell when i go to align it up with the inner fender which I think will be fine. I can drill new holes. Dang I for got to take the pictures of it welded up!
I'll post them tomorrow night I guess.
