Re: 64 Chevy C10 - 350 small block - not starting
So is the engine turning over or is it not?

It would be nice if the OP would actually tell us.

Re: 64 Chevy C10 - 350 small block - not starting
I tested all 8 spark plugs using an In-Line Ignition Spark Tester. The light within the tester did not flash for any of the plugs when my cousin turned the ignition key. So that is telling me I have no spark whatsoever.
I am using Delco R45TS spark plugs. The plugs were put in back in June when the truck was not running. So they are basically unused. The 8.5 MM MSD Super Connector Spark Plug wires are fairly new also. What is my next step given that there was no spark reading? Eddie |

Re: 64 Chevy C10 - 350 small block - not starting
So in the hopes of answering Jay's question, when I turn the ignition key, I am assuming that the starter is engaging the flywheel based on the typical starter noise I am hearing. There is no grinding noise.
Based on my prior post (no spark in all 8 plugs), it seems to me that the spark plugs are not firing. What can cause all 8 plugs not to produce a spark reading? |

why can you not answer the question about the engine itself turning over. is it that difficult. the starter can work but doesn't mean that the starter drive is functioning properly. not engaging the ring gear and therefore not turning the engine over ron |

Guys maybe we need to make very simple. 352 does the fan turn when you try to start the motor?

Re: 64 Chevy C10 - 350 small block - not starting
I thought I had posted this earlier. I at least typed something up. Since I did not see my posting out here, i am assuming I did not enter things correctly. I am posting again now. Forgive me if this appears twice.
1.) I tested the spark plugs this morning with an inline tester while my cousin turned the ignition key. 2.) The inline tester's light did not flash for any of the 8 plugs. So I have no spark for any of them. 3.) Getting back to Ray's question, I believe that the starter was trying to turn the engine. My guess is that the lack of the spark is what is preventing the engine from turning over. I found it interesting that testing all 8 plugs produced no spark. I am using R45TS plugs along with MSD 8.5 MM super conductor wires. But the plugs and wires are still new and were installed right after the truck stopped starting. I did remove the starter. I took it to Autozone. They indicated that it appeared to be functioning properly. Will be appreciative of any advice. Eddie |

Re: 64 Chevy C10 - 350 small block - not starting
I now see that my prior post from this morning is appearing. So again; apologies for the 2nd iteration.
Although I do have an electric fan on the truck, I do not remember seeing the pulley where the mechanical fan was attached to move this morning when the ignition switch was turned. I did not see the belt move either. Thanks for everyone's time. I will check out the point involving the distributor. I am sorry to have been a pest with this. |

Re: 64 Chevy C10 - 350 small block - not starting
Eddie everbody here wants to help you! But you gotta work with us!
OK lets start at the beginning. Forget about plugs & wires for now. When your cousin "Turns The Ignition Key" you stand in front of the engine, OK? Now, does the fan & pulleys & belt rotate clockwise on the front of the engine, Yes or No? Observe & report back! |

Re: 64 Chevy C10 - 350 small block - not starting
Oookkkk, then this means that the engine is NOT turning over! No matter what you do to the distributor, the engine will NOT run if the starter is not turning the engine over. If the starter does not turn the engine over, there will be NO spark at any spark plugs.
You need to find out why the engine is not turning over FIRST. Quote:

For the love of GOD man! I believe he answered the question. Sounds like the starter is not engaging? All the wasted typing!
