I love this one! So if it just needs a charge, it doesn't work. Not spending the few dollars to charge it for the sale tells me it needs more than a charge.

Saw this on Craigslist this morning:

"1972 C 20 3/4 ton, whole truck is Rhino lined inside and out, exterior was clear coated to make cleaning easy."

Re: What Urks you when looking at a used truck?

What urks me when you are looking at my truck, and can't say enough about how nice it is, and ask what all was done to it, how much I spent getting it to look the way it is. I take the time to detail most of what I have done, the hours, the cost, ect. Then you ask if you could buy it for 1/4 what I have in it.

Not knowing what cam is in the engine or what the differential gear ratio is.

"Just needs paint," anything in primer (primer lies), plywood battery tray held together w/ drywall screws. The latter won't drive me away, but it's a forehead slapper.

Re: What Urks you when looking at a used truck?

Besides the original grievance of spray bombing the entire engine compartment black...which a previous owner did to my current truck(and I have fixed).

People that say this is a $20000 truck after it's restored...I'll take $12000 but it is a basketcase.

Or they try to paint a picture of what all they 'wanted to do' to the truck in an attempt to justify their ridiculous price.

Sellers who insist they know what they are talking about, when the clearly don't have a clue... Don't just make stuff up because it sounds good. You will end up looking like an idiot when somebody calls you out on it.

What color should the engine compartment be if your truck is black?

Re: What Urks you when looking at a used 67-72 truck?

I don't like to see where someone has cut the dash to install a CD player or modern stereo, not a big fan of short bed conversions but I have owned one. Don't care for the newer beds put on these trucks. I seen a nicely restored 71 step side a while back a guy had installed a sunroof.... ruined it for me but hey if its what he likes then go for it we don't build these so other folks will like em

Any seller that says... "Short Wide" or starts quoting Blue Book or NADA values... I'm out.

Also... "numbers matching" adds no value to a truck.

Re: What Urks you when looking at a used truck?

It seems that everybody that has a 6 cylinder truck thinks it's a 292. I once drove 3 1/2 hrs; about 1 1/2 hr more than I thought it was going to be; to look at a truck with a good running 292 that turned out to be a 250 that hadn't run in years. Even guys with 50's trucks will tell you that it has a 292 in it when it's actually a 235.

That sucks, but passenger side motor mount and fuel pump location are a sure-fire way to ID that, and you can usually see that in a photo.

That and crappily replaced rocker panels...and having the third, fourth, or whatever engine in the truck...and sellers that believe that since their truck is old then it’s worth a lot of money (condition of the truck is a minor consideration to them).

Re: What Urks you when looking at a used truck?

Price depends as much on the buyer as the seller. Frankly, you put an LS in one of these, and I wouldn't give you a $100 for it, even you invested $100,000.00.

If I am a buyer, what the seller thinks it's worth is irrelevant to me. What is important is what I am willing to pay. I may wait a long time to get what I want for what I am willing to pay, but I have succeeded in the past, and I no doubt will succeed again in the future.
