This one was in the 67 ramp truck when I bought it.
I haven't unwrapped it yet. ![]()

I have a ''turquoise'' wheel on my Fawn truck, since I'm rebuilding the original wheel. I've also heard the color called ''Seafoam Green''. And, just for the heck of it, here's my all Fawn '67 Suburban interior.

Re: 67-68 factory steering wheel colors
Black was not an option on these 67-68 wheels as far as I know.
I do know they are black in aftermarket. Saw one here at a restoration shop. Wanted over 330.00 for it. Also there was the orangish wheels. 516 I think

Re: 67-68 factory steering wheel colors
Here’s a side by side comparison of 68 chevy fawn and 67 gmc which is a dark gray. I bet this is what Eric Johnson’s truck has. I recently bought this thinking it would match my 68 interior. Oops.

Fawn. Pristine example. You can't get a dash pad in Fawn anymore.

Re: 67-68 factory steering wheel colors
Any ideas which column and steering wheel colors my pickup had originally with 505 green and no other options?

Re: 67-68 factory steering wheel colors
I don't have any up close pictures but my steering wheel is like a cream color inside and out. I can try to go look at it in a few weeks when I'm back up north to see if there's any other colors showing through it but I'm pretty sure it's just that off white cream color. And unless the heat has gotten to it it should still only have one or two small cracks in it

Re: 67-68 factory steering wheel colors
I'm curious how many 67 wheels were cast in color and how many are black and painted over. I had one of each. 1st picture is of the cast one. The cast one had lots of shrinking but stayed shiny like new paint and the black painted over one had just hairline cracks but the paint was wore where your hands rubbed the wheel and was sun faded

Not correct horn button.
Really rough shape. My dad and I pulled it from a truck around 1979. Been sitting in my Dad's garage until we cleaned out the garage 8 years ago. |

Sort of Hugger Orange, but pre Model Year 1969. You could bring that back up, if you filed out the cracks with a triangular file, and filled in the valleys with JB Weld or similar 2-part epoxy filler. When the epoxy has hardened a couple days later -- file and sand the repair rings to the level of the good parts of the wheel and prime and paint. 67/68 Wheels were made of a composite formula similar to bakelite. Then painted. 69/72 Wheels were made of a high impact plastic called Cycolac and molded in color.

Re: 67-68 factory steering wheel colors
I won't be fixing it. If someone wanted to do that I would ship it to them.
Both my trucks have black tilt's. 71 suburban GMC 4x4 4 speed tilt black sure grip wheel with center horn button that was custom cut from a 67-68 fancy GMC horn cap. My 72 Chev has a Olds 442 wheel . |
