Question for the guys with nice floors. In one picture I see someone with what looks like , their grinding the floor surface on an older floor. Are you resealing this yourself or having it done. Watched an episode on Garage rehab where they started moving equipment in the next day. Others say it takes a week to dry. What are the pros and cons of making a nice floor ? Mine is getting stained and dingy.

After getting a few quotes to have the floor done by contractors in the range of 10gs I said screw that and got to work doing it myself . That’s the wife in the one pic on the grinder lol. I used a industrial epoxy from Ppg Amerlock 400 and mega seal SL and there sealer . Three stages , sealer , base and a top coat mega seal . All the work is in the prep like any coating job , grind and seal all the cracks , degrease floor and grind floor . This epoxy holds up to chemicals well but chips very easy if you drop anything. It’s been little over two years now since we bought the place and it’s held up well. I work in my shop so it’s gonna get damaged. I wouldn’t hesitate to use this stuff again when floor gets worn down I’ll throw another top coat down

When we went red on My floor I really just wanted to be able to have something different. 2 years later and it is looking pretty dull compared to when it was new.

In the 60ts I would rent a 3 bedroom house so I would have a room for my bike

rusher - how does the floor finish hold up under traffic. By traffic I mean with moving vehicles with sharp/multiple turning of tires. Also all my "stuff" is on different type of canisters; saws, tool chest, carts, press, etc.

My garage is 40 x50 and the front half is for storage parking and the back half if set up with two lifts and all my tool boxes. I don’t have any good pictures of the layout inside but included a few motorcycle shots where you can see a little bit of the lifts and boxes

Rubber tire marks from hot tires no residue left on floor . Steel castors like on my engine lift when I’m moving or skidding and engine around the steel castors will scratch the floor at times but doesn’t go right through all of coating. Welding it does leave some burn marks I try to cover up area when welding. Cost me about $2500 for material and grinder rentals to do 1600 sq feet of floor

Had to get a new roof so I finally got those skylights I always wanted. This shot is lights off in the middle of a rainy day. It took some getting used to. For the first few days I'd walk in and the light would surprise me.

On my attached garage to my house I tore out the old floor and repoured. I used no sealer. Once cured for minimum of 30-days, I etched the floor and put down a Sherwin Williams Armorseal Rexthane Urethane coating. It was a single part coating. Very durable and avoids hot tire pick up. I've had it down about 5-years now with no chips or scratches. Hard as hell. Its held up to my floor jacks and other things, but doesn't get used like my workshop (which I'll explain). Sorry not many pictures of the final urethane coated floor. I would definitely use this again.

Now in my workshop I also let the floor cure for a full 30-days minimum. Also no cure and seal applied; just raw concrete. I had that floor ground and polished. I was too nervous about trying to lay down the Sherwin Williams product on that floor due to the size of the shop. If I had to do it over, I would probably use the Sherwin Williams. It is tough as hell and holds up to any chemical you spill on it. If I would drip oil it would stay there until the day I decide to wipe it up.

My polished concrete floor is different. That method uses several grits of polishing to close off the pores of the concrete. During the process they use densifiers and chemical resistant materials along with a final top that gets polished into the concrete. This is not a coating. It goes into the concrete, so you don't have to worry about anything chipping off. I can drag around my floor jack or jack stands. I can weld without worry of slag problems. There is minimal maintenance. I only have to wash it down and maybe use a cleaner/degreaser once in a while. The down side of it is that it's not as resistant to oil and chemicals like my other floor. If I spill oil on it I pretty much have to wipe it up right away. Oil will soak in if left on the floor. I love the durability, looks and low maintenance, but hate the fact I have to worry about oil.

No problem. I researched a lot of different coatings and this PPG industrial stuff is good stuff . A coatings engineer at work pointed me in the right direction. I’m sure there’s lots other options out there. Main thing I wanted was to brighten the floor up, easy to clean and durability. The floor was in terrible shape before hand

Thanks vetnat. Not a fleet truck. It was my grandfather's truck, purchased new in February 1965, for just a bit over $1,800.

In the past couple weeks I built a storage platform and added some new LED tubes so I have plenty of light working under the lift.
