As a vehicle verifyer you quickly realize that the DMV workers have never read the California DMV code book. Seriously.

Re: Titles and reality. 1966 C10

So?
Does it have a 65 or 65 E brake set up?
Does the frame VIN match the VIN plate?
Does it have reverse lights?
Does it have a SPID in the glove box?

I have a 62 with torsion bars and the x frame but it is registered as a 63. It also has the 63 grill and emblems.

Like I said it is a 66 according to the VIN, but the owner, the DMV and everyone that has been around this truck for the past 53 years have all referred to it as a 65.

so decoding the VIN

C-two wheel drive
l4-1/2 ton, 115" wheel base
4-Pick up
6 model year 1966
Z- built in Fremont california
112489- The 12,489th truck built

I have to go into the DMV, they do not have any forms on line. Once I have the forms I can have a CHP officer verify the VIN and a new title can be created.

Thank you for your advice. I followed it as soon as you posted it.

I think he does. He is trying to sell this truck.
It's a really nice truck, but there are things that don't add up.

Re: Titles and reality. 1966 C10

Robert, have you checked the VIN on the frame to make sure it matches the cab?

It is pretty grimy and I would need to get in there and root around pretty hard.

I am sure it will match. the Truck came from a member of the family. I trust him and his brothers completely.

That would be the final thing I would verify. Otherwise, get the documentation corrected and start calling it a 66. 😊

Re: Titles and reality. 1966 C10

It looks like you can find the frame VIN on the driver's side frame just in front of the engine stand.

Re: Titles and reality. 1966 C10

post 31 says it matches.

Looks like a DMV error, and that can be corrected.
