Re: T-5 swap time
Ahhh the fun continues....
My hand was feeling better so I decided to remove the pilot bushing. I was expecting to battle with it, but to my surprise I used bread and it came fairly easy. Now putting in a new one is another story. The bushing that came with the clutch kit (off of a 77 C10 with a 400 11" 26 spline) went in about 1/16 and then started to get " smashed". I removed it and went to the LPS and picked up a Motormite Help bushing for a 1967 Chevy Camaro with a 250. Same results it seems to big. I purchased another one BCA PB656HD same thing. My old bushing is measuring out a 1.0925 the BCA 1.0996 and the Motormite 1.0965 I purchase a bushing for a powerglide to manual way to small 1.067 Watched videos and they seem to go in with less persuasion . I've tried freezing ,using grease and even sanded one down a bit. ANY and I mean any help would be appreciated ! Tempted to reinstall old one and be done with it.

Re: T-5 swap time
Make sure that there are no burrs on the crankshaft or the transmission input shaft, and then go online to find a bearing to match. Maybe you can find a bushing, as well. If no bearings show up, try and find a shop that can turn a bronze bushing to fit. I'm 300+ miles away, so wouldn't be much help on turning that bushing to fit. This seems to be a common swap, so I suspect something amiss with the crankshaft, to be honest.

Re: T-5 swap time
Thanks Steve. The crankshaft is clean and smooth. So after a little "googling" It seams that today's bushings may need some "adjusting". I will take to a buddy's shop and have him turn it down a bit .

Re: T-5 swap time
Good that you have a buddy to machine it to size. Taking it elsewhere would be $50 worth of machining on a $5 part, which is always an annoyance. Mike the crank good and be sure that it still has to be knocked in and doesn't rattle or spin in the crankshaft. Ask me how I know that.

Re: T-5 swap time
Hey . . .
just checking in - - - I hope you have fun with your T 5 tranny . I installed a '93 GMC S-15 W/C T5 into my 69 Nova , back in March 2018 . . . and been having fun ever since. T 5 : 93 - 2.8 / V6 , W/C with (about 300,000 miles) . . . . using the stock S-15 = 14 spline input shaft , TRANS Cast in 1992 , with the 'Muncie bolt pattern' . . . . NO adaptor needed . later , jim Last edited by twinshadows; 07-18-2020 at 09:11 PM. |

Re: T-5 swap time
Slow progres .. but some. As I mentioned earlier the fly wheel came off and smashed my right hand fingers ( yes a stupid and painful mistake) I am at about 80% almost able to make a fist so I am limited on wrenching. My daily driver's power steering pump shaft broke so I had to take it to a shop. Nothing kills me more than having to pay someone to do something that I can do. Ok that's out of my system!
Pilot bushing is in !! I decided to install the flywheel and found out the center bore was to small. First thing to cross my mind was that I had some weird crankshaft! I thought I did my due diligence in researching what I needed so ordered a LUK LFW101 from Summit back in 2016 Well now in 2020 I find out that the one I ordered has too small of a center bore! I was able to find one (in stock on a Saturday) at a local parts house . It went on with ease new bolts just need to torqued. Waiting on new pressure plate bolts. Stay tuned

Re: T-5 swap time
From what I am seeing on Summit's website, the LFW101 should be correct for your engine. The LFW100 is externally balanced for a small block 400 and will not work on your engine unless you have a 400 or externally balanced 383.

For some reason the LUK LFW101 that I have has a center hole of 2.434 I need a center hole of 2.483. Thanks for the correction!

Re: T-5 swap time
I lost my wife on back on 7/27/20 and had to put this project on hold.
While nowhere close to being back to normal I know that life goes on. Im Hoping to complete the swap sooner than latter . Not much left to (At least I hope so) I will post some pics as I go. Remember never take your loved ones for granted.

Ya I spent 22 years in the Navy in and out of San Diego. I used to think it got cold in the winter. Boy was I spoiled.

Re: T-5 swap time
Nice weather today so i was able to get the transmission in!
Since I installed the clutch 6 months ago it seems that the disc is stuck to the fly wheel ... I took the measurements for the drive shaft and it looks like it needs to be shortened about 1.5 inches, Will get that done next week. Thanks to all of you for your Motivation !

Re: T-5 swap time
If it’s a short bed C10, you might find what you need at the salvage yard. This drive shaft bolted right up to my T5 and had the correct slip yoke too! I just changed the rear u-joint to a conversion U-joint. See pics.
