Re: Picked up a GM 14 bolt rear end for the 63 C20
Yes, I noticed that. Can’t get my grinder in there; I may need to buy a Sawzall.

Re: Picked up a GM 14 bolt rear end for the 63 C20
Let the axle back down on the trailing arm, then cut the nuts off at the bottom. Your grinder should be able to get to them on the bottom side

Sure thing! There's often times several ways of getting to the same result: axle out of the truck

Re: Picked up a GM 14 bolt rear end for the 63 C20
Looking for suggestions on how to get the mounting angle, and any other info I might need. I may use the old pan hard bracket, however, I’m not sure. Thinking about getting the double adjustable track bar from Brothers.
The overall length is 1” over on the new axle, 65” for the Eaton and 66” for the GM 14-bolt. Why the heck do my pics always go upside-down?

Re: Picked up a GM 14 bolt rear end for the 63 C20
There is a thread from a member who did this swap including how to set up the pinion angle. He used a jig similar to yours. I believe he is in Tucson.

Re: Picked up a GM 14 bolt rear end for the 63 C20
The leaf springs on the back of the axle, are these just helper springs? We’re these standard equipment on the C10s and C20s? I have not been able to find bushings for these.
Does anyone have a source?

Re: Picked up a GM 14 bolt rear end for the 63 C20
Should be overload or helper springs

Re: Picked up a GM 14 bolt rear end for the 63 C20
Those might be some aftermarket ones from way back when?

Re: Picked up a GM 14 bolt rear end for the 63 C20
Missing some parts for my brakes on the new axle setup. It's a 9.5" 14-bolt, semi-float.
I ordered this kit: CENTRIC KIT443D (With Wheel Cylinder) Drum Kit; Drum Height: 5.19" ; Click Info for full list of components. Info Rear; 13" Rear Drum; JB7 The brake drums seem to fit properly, the brake shoes too. 1. I need the little piston-pushers that go into the wheel cylinders. 2. Also, not sure about which springs hold down the brake shoes, The kit I got from Rock Auto came with two drums, two wheel cylinders and a hardware kit. But it looks like theres different springs that hole the shoes in place. Hoping someone can help - I believe the axle is outof a 1979-sh truck, maybe a C20 or possibly C10.

Re: Picked up a GM 14 bolt rear end for the 63 C20
Square-body 14bolts would be C20's.

Re: Picked up a GM 14 bolt rear end for the 63 C20
Can someone help with this assembly of the right rear brake? The rear end id from a 79-ish truck.
Not sure if I need all the parts for the emergency brake linkage. Mine has the propeller shaft ebrake. Anyone have a diagram that shows where the other parts, in the middle go?

Re: Picked up a GM 14 bolt rear end for the 63 C20
That helps, but I don’t think it is exactly like mine.
The #7 spring that I have is shaped differently. I also don’t have #2, not sure what it’s called. EDIT: I think that is the parking brake strut. I probably don’t need this, if I am not using the ebrake, right?

Re: Picked up a GM 14 bolt rear end for the 63 C20
#2 is the parking brake strut. The shape of the spring may look different but it works the same.

Sorry for the poor orientation, but hopefully this will help some on where the self adjuster arm thingy is supposed to go

Re: Picked up a GM 14 bolt rear end for the 63 C20
Yup, looks like you've got it!
That E clip I believe is for the parking brake cable that you aren't using since you have the brake on the back of your transmission. If you swap transmissions, it wouldn't be too hard to convert to the cable system from a 66 truck. I'm not sure what that other piece is for though

Re: Picked up a GM 14 bolt rear end for the 63 C20
The clip holds a bracket to the brake shoe and the emergency brake cable attaches to the bracket. You can see the bracket in carpenters picture. I don't know what that other part is.

Re: Picked up a GM 14 bolt rear end for the 63 C20
That other piece is a spring steel plug that replaces the rubber plug for the adjuster star.
I also notice that the self-adjuster lever is not correct. The portion that is swaged over to contact the star is too far along and will not engage properly. It will be obvious if you look at the "top" of Christian's pic in post #44.
