Re: GMC K10 Panel
Beautiful and very authentic restoration work! Not overdone as is so commonly seen.
I'd say that the finish on that original instrument panel would be nearly impossible to reproduce. |

Re: GMC K10 Panel
Wow! Excellent work and photos! Feels like I'm standing in a GMC assembly plant in Pontiac Michigan in 1966.

Re: GMC K10 Panel
I remember the first instrument panel I saw in a '64-'66 GMC back in 1980, someone took the liberty of painting the whole thing flat black Can't beat a restoration utilizing key NOS parts. IMO, when finished, this K 10 will be priceless, nothing on this planet to compare to.

Re: GMC K10 Panel
More progress. Rigged up a gas can while I get the gas tank sealed. Had an exhaust appointment to meet. Guy is 4 weeks out so you do what you have to. Rear is finished and lights working , NOS taillights , license light, bumper etc installed. Wiring done. Glass , what a pain ! Bought a Precision gasket , hate to bad mouth their gasket but I will never buy another. 3 hours , two removals , could not use it. Used an NOS GM gasket , 40 minutes done. Their gasket was not finished inside the glass groove therefore not deep enough and too pliable , chrome kept coming out . We also think its not meant to use on original glass , more suited to new , thinner windshields . This was an NOS LOF windshield .

Re: GMC K10 Panel
Incredible! Not much else to say, beyond plain gushing, that is.
Just to punctuate the wow factor, how's about a list of the ridiculously hard to find NOS parts used on this project? I'd bet there's more to come too. |

Re: GMC K10 Panel
I'd say it looks better than the assembly plant. Beautiful work.

Re: GMC K10 Panel
Agree with all the above comments, outstanding restoration, along with detailed historic documentation. A great addition to information on our trucks. If you do not mine, what factory built it?

Re: GMC K10 Panel
Should be done this week. Just need a few little things done. Seal gas tank and install. Waiting on hood hinges at plater and install hood. Grill , front bumper , passenger seat, floor matt wheels etc. Close !
Thanks TJ . Thanks Les. Pontiac Michigan built. Same as my Red GMC and the Black short bed.

Re: GMC K10 Panel
Sunday was our local car show. Over 400 cars in attendance , that's up a 125 cars this year. I set my goal to drive this truck to the show, a whopping 1 mile from the house, 😂. We made it and I think the truck turned out pretty well. Still needs finishing in some areas but now I can take my time and have some fun. From a painted body and unfinished chassis 1st of December 2020 to this as of this Saturday June 5th. Also took 1st place in the 1961 to present stock and modified class at the show Sunday. Only one class for ALL those years. Lots of interest in the truck. Cant tell you how many people called the engine a 348 . Some took the time to learn about the 305 .
It also no longer fits in the garage. The 17.5s and STA tires raise it 3 inches over the 15 inch rollers in some of these pictures. So now its out in the big building with the others for awhile.

Re: GMC K10 Panel
Looks fantastic! A rare glimpse of how a '66 GMC would have looked brand new! Priceless. This is a unique vehicle that will be a stand out at any show in the country for years to come, not to mention a 1st place trophy getter! We purists really appreciate the path you took to get everything authentic, the results speak for themselves. I don't think you mentioned the color, but it looks like ( GMC only ) Terrace Blue. Hopefully this restoration will start a trend to get more GMC's restored to factory standards, IMO, impossible to improve on the way they looked when leaving the assembly line.
