Re: What am I missing with getting this 235 running
well, then. in that case I would advance the sucker and give it a crank. you'll know if it's too far advanced, the starter will tell you.
have fun with the cameo while waitin for parts. got pic of that thing? |

Re: What am I missing with getting this 235 running
I was poking around in my spare parts bin for something else, and what did I find? A brand new coil I was unaware of...
threw in the new coil, turned it over while pumping the gas pedal, and the engine started up and stayed running at a high idle! The coil I was using ran another truck, but I guess it just wasn't enough for this particular setup. I suspected the spark, you all suspected the spark, and it was the spark. I don't have the radiator on so I only let it run briefly, but I consider that a success for now.. once it's reassembled, which should be sooner than later now, I can play around with the timing and idle. Thanks for your help gentlemen!

Re: What am I missing with getting this 235 running
Update: I found the source of the high idle, I left off the pcv/power brake vacuum fitting so I had a massive vacuum leak. I re-installed all of that, and then it wouldnt start again. I advanced the timing and it would run, but not idle. So I have more adjustments to do, but definitely progress.

Yippee
Now you are coil rich, better buy some more trucks so you have something to use them on, haha |

Glad to hear it fired up. You may need to open the throttle plates to get enough air into the cylinders when you get back to it.
