Re: Intake manifold stud for carb help

Nothing feels better then the experience of getting a stuck fastener loose. I bought a Diamond T that had sat untouched for decades. The head neede to come off but everyone bolt was stuck. It took me about a month of tapping and several cans of Kroil Oil but I finally got them all loose. I would walk by every day and tap each with a ball peen hammer and hit each with more Kroil. Felt great afterwards…

Without that bit of info I'd have probably just stopped altogether when I saw the top twist slightly without the bottom moving. Thank you for that insight, HO455. Outstanding!

If anything was ever considered a "WIN", I'd say this was!

Indeed. When I worked as a mechanic, we didn't have the luxury of waiting while the penetrant did its work. In this case, I would have used the stud as-is, (as was mentioned upthread) instead of charging for the removal.

That is a known character flaw of mine. I just did not have it in me to leave it there even though I knew it was really the right answer to the problem.

My daugter will NEVER help me paint the house again due to said flaw.

Re: Intake manifold stud for carb help

Rich, I'm glad it worked out for you, but from my experiences, the hours spent on fixing the problem is better spent on other parts of the truck. But, I understand keeping it original.

I had some what of the same problem, early on in my build I had a pulled rocker stud, there are many solutions for fixing it, but I decided to replace the heads, costly but I wanted the vortec heads anyway.

Time is important to me, so I pick my battles. Again, congratulations on solving your problem

Glad to be of help. It's good when the operation was a success and the patient lives.

I get it, I would do the same if it was mine. But if it didn't spin right out, I wouldn't want to waste a customer's money.
