The pistons were carboned up but came out clean with a little acetone and trans fluid scrubbed with a nylon plush . .040 over so it’s a 355 ci the cylinder walls have no ridge no scoring either

White stuff ? Not sure what you’re referencing.


Edit:Are you talking about the valve picture ? If so I think the specks are just reflection of the flash on the oil deposits

Yeah. The pix in frame 4999 of piston tops looked like there was a white accretion on the surface, but it could be internet distortion.
I haven't been able to get Gas with TEL in over 24 years. If that engine has been run in the last Quarter Century, it's probably not lead deposits.

This engine was running in my 72 a few months ago . I put a Blue Print 350 in it in June . I was planing on putting it it in the 68 anniversary truck .

But the heads aren’t worth fixing couple of worn guides so it would be to much to spend . The heads are 75cc smog heads so I’m looking for new ones

It's been a while since I posted anything on the board. Have more been reading/searching.

Last friday I put in a new water pump , new thermostat, new fan clutch with 7 blade fan and finally a shroud.
Never had the shroud on because the 5 blade that was on it was a 19" fan. To big for the shroud.
Had some overheating problems on the hot summer days, so decided to change a few parts.
Luckily the radiator was still okay.
Anyway, now it stays cool again.

Found the rattle in the back of my 72 . Not sure how this got in there other than the stake pocket maybe for some type of hold down for the slide in camper that truck had been in the bed since new but it’s a 3/8 inch toggle wing nut . I pulled it halfway out by hand but needed a pliers to force it out fully . I was spraying some Fluid Film around there and spotted it .

I can't see the nut, perhaps for a spare tire hold down? My truck bed was down to metal for years. When I finally got to it, I found a medium size plastic flag stake in the same area. Agree, falls through the pockets.

No nut on it . Truck originally came with an under bed tire carrier as per the spid but it looks like they removed it to put the bumper on it . It’s a slide bumper with a lot of bracing . Leaning more towards a tie down for the slide in camper

My truck also had some sort of tie down rubber insulated bolt thing that clanked around and make noise. I had to wrestle it out as well.

I finally got my inner fender wells and side mirrors back from bodywork and color matching.
Really don’t like driving around without a hood, so things got crazy.
I figured the hood needs a scoop and it’s gonna need a hole in it anyways, soooo.....

Off topic.... is your tailgate original?
I’m asking as I have the bottom trim to put on, and yours looks like the thicker edge of the trim is facing up.

I just replaced both trailing arms on my '70 short bed. Old arms had rust holes and a big gap between c channels. Job went smooth with no problems. I would advise anyone doing this swap to spread the forward mounts to aid in reinstall. You can close it back up as you torque the bolts

I did discover passenger side park brake cable frozen with no movement. Fixed that.

Well, I went to adjust rear brakes and noticed the drum full of rear end oil. I cleaned everything up and pulled the rear (12 bolt) cover and then axels to replace the seals. Got the seals replaced, new gasket on the cover and put it back together…all good there.
Whilst I was under there, I noticed the rear u-joint was loose. So, I again cleaned it up and replaced it.
I ordered a rear brake hose and plan to replace it tomorrow.

I replaced the flex hoses on my truck back when I converted to front disc brakes. tommy3horse's post reminded me that those hoses are now ten years old. Every time I start my truck from now on, I'm going to stand on the brake pedal before I drive it anywhere. Best place for a hose failure would be in my driveway.

It's been years since I've driven my 1970 GMC at night. I had forgotten just how bad standard sealed beams are. I did research here looking for LED headlights that folks here have used. I found the same LED headlights on Amazon last week for $105 without tax.

Headlight installation was straight forward. They fit perfectly into the factory headlight bucket and plug directly into the factory headlight harness. Although I did have to grind off a locating tab off of each headlight.

These headlights also have 'Daylight Running Lights' option. I also purchased a DRL module to control the DRLs on these headlights. I'm using a one wire alternator. So I just tied into the factory wiring harness where the old voltage regulator plug harness exits the main harness. Both constant 12v (red wire) and switch 12v (brown wire) are there to use.

According to the seller on Amazon these LED headlight don't draw many amps. The low beams draw about 1.4A each on and when on high beams around 2.2 amps. So on low beam current draw is about 3 amps and on high beam current draw is about 9 amps. I don't see any need to use relays for this setup.

I should have upgraded to these headlights years ago. The difference between the old sealed beam headlights and these LED headlights is just amazing.

Rumor has it this old gas station, just outside Oatman AZ on old Route 66, was the inspiration for the gas station in Disney's Cars movie. This photo was taken before installing the LED headlights.

I found I was losing gasoline vapor out of the Fuel Line connector at the Fuel Level Sender junction. Last night I tightened it up. I cleaned up some old teflon tape that seems to have dissolved. I had a new roll of the Yellow Teflon tape recommended for Natural Gas connections, but I wasn't sure if it was any good with the Ethanol they're foisting on us. So I went with Metal-on-Metal.

Added a 5 gallon jerry can of 87 octane, as I had let the fuel level get way down [1/8th tank] so gas wouldn't spurt out while operating, as it did when Full.
I'll top it off later and hopefully won't get gas fumes in the cab anymore.
