Re: Bench Seats, Having them Reupholstered
I’ve had quite a few seat back frames that have been broken at the hinge, some on both sides! So I took them all to my welder friend, and he got them all welded back up for me.

Re: Bench Seats, Having them Reupholstered
All the seat back frames are back together! All the foam had to be glued back together, where I had to peel them back so they could be welded. Also repainted the hinges, and frames.

Front Standard Bucket Seats. Includes Hog Rings, Hog Ring Pliers and Instructions. The 1988 and newer models have some of the original seat upholstery heat laminated to the foam making it very difficult to remove the old upholstery. Our seat kits for these models do not require the removal of this laminated upholstery. Our sets will go right over the original and hog ring where the original seat cover is attached.

Early spring I built a couple of Burgundy seats for someone’s CrewCab. Today he sent pics, he has his interior all back together. Wow! It looks nice!

Re: Bench Seats, Having them Reupholstered
Just put together a fully restored Blue Velour Deluxe BenchSeat. This will be packed and heading to Texas. Here’s a close up of the frame, springs, tracks and foam. Everything gets sandblasted of the surface rust and repainted. Tracks are chemical dipped to remove rust, then relubed. They slide, and look new! A good original foam is being used on this seat. Springs & grid are all tightened. All the plastics have been cleaned & restored also.
There’s been some discussions on some of the FB Groups concerning seats being recovered. My thoughts are on the subject, if your going to pay out that kind of money, you should get more than just a pretty new cover. These seats have a lot of issues hiding under that cover, and I address them. One being the rust! I ask, would you take your truck to paint and just have them put a pretty new paint job on it, without fixing the rust? Well I would hope not, because the rust will just continue to grow. All that money & time is just going to go to waste.

Re: Bench Seats, Having them Reupholstered
Yeah yeah, I know it’s a Ford, but this was done for a good friend of mine. We worked together for years when we were at Honda, and we are both retired now. Him and his son are working on a 79 Ford together, and he asked if I would do the seat for him. And of course, for my former boss, I couldn’t say no.
It got the normal treatment that I do to all my Chevy seats. The frame, tracks and all the hardware was restored. Also New Foam & New Cover. Here are the Before pics.

Re: Bench Seats, Having them Reupholstered
The broad strokes of rehabbing bench seats are probably all fairly similar but the mild differences in hardware etc would slow the repair.
You'd run into similar mild differences between generations of GM light truck seats in Series 10-30 67-72, 73-80, 81-91, 88-94, & 95-01 GM seats. Your main problem would be the fact that you likely don't have several Ford seats stripped down so when a part is damaged beyond repair you have to find a donor.

In the case of doing my friends Ford seat. He supplied the seat that was in the truck. The only thing that needed replaced with new, was the seat bottom foam, and course the cover. Thankfully nothing else needed replaced, or we would have been looking for a donor. This will most likely be the only Ford seat I will do, and I really only agreed to do it because he was a good friend, and a well respected/good boss. I will say this about the Ford seat. The cover was really easy to install compared to the 73-87 Chevy seats.

Nice work. You could probably expand into S10 seats, we all know they need redone.

Re: Bench Seats, Having them Reupholstered
I have one. But I really can’t expand, I just don’t have the room. Between the seats and the seatbelts, I’m maxed out on room to store all the supplies & cores. And what I have pictured here, is just part of what I have in stock & supplies.

What is the white cover that the foam is encased in, in the last picture of post number 597? I feel like I should know what it is because I have read all of your thread updates, but that picture got me curious.
