Re: norms 55 chevy pu build
door glass is usually just flat safety glass like an industrial machne would use. if you have the original frames they could likely be filled with glass from a local glass shop. you would need the original dimensions though. sorry, i am away from home right now or i would get a pattern for you.

Got both doors sanded buffed and polished now. Next is a bunch of small stuff since I'm in sanding buffing mode, lol.

Re: norms 55 chevy pu build
This board is the last thing I have to sand, buff, and polish. Then I have to shift gears. Been doing this apply, then sand and more sanding for over a year. It was August of "23" when I hauled all the parts to town to get them blasted, time flying for sure.
Sure am glad I can have my shop 70 degrees when I'm out there. The rest of the time when I'm not there it's about 59 - 58. I almost forgot, but last January I broke my left arm so I was down to a couple hours a day in the shop for a month or so which may be some of why it took so long. Re: norms 55 chevy pu build
I'm wearing those things at night now. They keep the wrist from flexing. I have carpet tunnel on both sides. Had cortisone in Dec.

Re: norms 55 chevy pu build
It really is bad to not have full use of our hands. I've heard carpel tunnel is really bad, several friends have had surgery on their arms. Hope it works out for you. I do stretching on my wrists every day and have a vibrating machine to keep the wrists loose, it helps me quite a bit.

Re: norms 55 chevy pu build
I guess I'm fortunate, as I farm I need good hands to drive and operate and maintain my farm machines.
Decided to put the 4 bolts in the cab first so it can't move around. got them in with out much trouble so now on to the doors. Last edited by washington blue; 01-20-2025 at 01:05 AM. |

Re: norms 55 chevy pu build
Got the pass door hinges on without any issues, except I used too long a bolt on the bottom inside the pocket. Hinge would not quite close all the way so I had to shorten that bolt.

Re: norms 55 chevy pu build
On the driver side I had to make a cage nut to put in the cage on the bottom hinge, bottom bolt hole. It turned out really good.

Re: norms 55 chevy pu build
Spent the rest of today putting on the passenger door. My hoist idea worked really well. I could move the door in/out half an inch at a time. I could also raise/lower it tiny bits as well. Also I could move the hoist forward/rearward an inch or so as needed too. 4 hours later I had it on and adjusted as well as it was in 55.

Re: norms 55 chevy pu build
Interesting door assistant.
I have not seen that before. I like it better than the one I have that I put on a floor jack and raise it. The door is sloppy loose in mine.

Re: norms 55 chevy pu build
Before I painted I just set the door on my floor jack and balanced it and hoped for the best. It never fell off, but close, lol. I've seen guys make cradles that mount to a floor jack. I did not want anything touching the paint, and this is how I painted the door so I had it.

Re: norms 55 chevy pu build
Thanks guys,
Got busy today and hung the driver door, kinda the same as the other one. Glad that's done, less worry about chips and dropping stuff. |

Re: norms 55 chevy pu build
Did some shimming and fitting today, I was able to close the hood for the first time. Now I'm reminded how awful the factory gaps are, lol.
Too cold and windy to be outside, -20 last night, so it's hot rod time, lol. Have had absolutely no snow this winter, wow. I have noticed with the weight of the doors and closing the hood the front springs are starting to settle down a little. |

Re: norms 55 chevy pu build
Those gaps are looking good.
We had 20 here in Texas, and we HAD SNOW! I didn't get out of the house yesterday.
