The other great thing to watch was how random people were shouting at Martin in the streets........ He was clearly well known and liked in this area where he ran a body shop for 13 years and it included painting many of South London's "Heavies" cars and Range Rovers.

An added benefit of going in with Martin was that we got the paint and sundries at Trade prices which meant saving 20% VAT on the £350.00 purchase. So £70.00 into the kitty.

Today I will spend in bed, as I have more than a man flu, poor Martin had to put up with me yesterday, coughing and spluttering all over him all day in the car and van when we brought the compressor back here.

Couple more 67-72 rear bumper pics to add to your thread, thanks to the owners for posting up.

I am really please to have decided to go this route.

Suspect more guys may do so, if they want to tidy up the rear but keep it looking standard-ish.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside BILLYBOB

Quirky Question Time.

Saw this on another thread.

Does one still get the small chrome lip fitted to the top of the door in this pic??

I like it because it is a quirky thing.

If so, where do I look for new ones, or must I try find a pair of used ones?

As always, thank you for the input and advice.

Rian are you talking about the sun visor over the window? If you are those are pretty easy to find. My grandpa had a pair on his 79'. I'm pretty sure they still make them.

Thats them Bret !!

As long as they fit my trucks side windows, I will get a set some time.

Just a nice period mod to add, and more shiny stuff.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside BILLYBOB

The internet is a rather amazing invention.

Through my life on various interest forums I have met a range of amazing people, learned a lot, and shared some info.

Friendships that should last as long as me have been forged.

One of the many friendships formed on here has been with Bret J in Texas.

He is a meticulous woodworker, and is restoring a Chevy C10 pickup for his wife that has been in the family a long time.

A while ago I commented on some Rocketships that he had turned., saying that Nicola loved it too.

Today I get home and there is a parcel from Texas. Bret and I have exchanged number plates before, so he had my address.

Inside was the Rocketship mkVI for Nicola and some stickers for me, as well as some number plates for my collection.

Bret sent me a Texas Disabled Veteran number plate and three Australian plates. JACKPOT !!!

Massive thanks to Bret for his kindness

Excited....?? More like totally blown away at Bret's kindness and generosity.

At moments like this I always wonder what I did to deserve this kind of treatment.

The plates were the cherry on top, and the stickers (I have still got a nice small collection, but used to have a large collection which I mostly gave to a guy who needed them more than me a few years ago) the sauce.

This morning Nicola was walking about with her rocket, tainting me with "Mine, Mine, Mine, Mine....... All Mine"

It lives on the front room bay window now.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside BILLYBOB

Slightly Off Thread....... but Hey Ho.

Well, two lots of plates landed this week.

First was an unexpected parcel from Bret in Texas, included three Australian plates (Never been able to get any, despite some promises) and a disabled veterans plate. This fits into my narrowed down collecting of Military, DV, Govt etc plates.

Also included was a hand made wooden Rocketship mkVI for my wife, which has her squealing with glee.

Stickers from his collection, for my collection.

Rocketship in place.

Note my special Sheriffs badge

The second parcel was a trade I did with Ben.

Unfortunately the UK Customs will rape you for every penny possible.

Unknowingly the value was made out to be $25.00 on the customs declaration which then attracted £13.61 ($21.40) in duty and handling fees.
We all know the real value of these plates are cents, most of the value to me is inherent and emotional........ so getting bummed by the government angers me.

Still, I have a load of awesome plates and just want this rant to make you guys aware that you need to really value the plates you put into international post at $1.00 each.

Cool plates that all fit into my collecting.

The last two weeks I have been buying in the stuff I need for the bodywork.

Last week my Ebay account reverted to my old address which I vacated more than 4 years ago...... WTF???

No idea how that happens, as I had deleted the old address 4 years ago.

So Yodel (less said the better) returned my items, some I found at the old address when Derek my old neighbour called me to say stuff had been delivered.

So I re-ordered and paid delivery again.

All items now accounted for.

Included a small bodywork hammer set.

Pile growing.

Tonight after work I went back into the garage for the first time in a week.
Re-welded a wheel mounting on my compressor that Martin and I managed to break off when manhandling it into his van last week.
First time I used the Argon/CO2 gas I fitted recently, works differently, seems to be an improvement.

So next up I need to move the truck out and fit the walls for the "Paint Booth"

Got Hefty looking after the electrics table at the moment.

BUT.......

Sorry to disappoint you.

Was planning on getting the walls up for the "Paint Booth" in the garage today.

Instead I did all the ironing (Mrs Grizz is quite ill) some other tasks like filling the in house woodbox, kindling and coal scuttle, then refilled the outside woodbox from my stash behind the garage.
Followed by raking up all the leaves on the lawn, half a wheelie bin full and then cut the grass on a medium height.
Still not ready to start on my actual task, I remembered that I needed to make 13 spacers and 13 shims for Martins friend Russell, the paraplegic ex fireman.
His furniture in his house is too low, so I offered to make some pieces to fit between the legs/feet using longer bolts.

His daily drive car is a Nissan Skyline GTR which Martin converted to full hand controls for him.

Seems he is rather capable behind the wheel as well.

It was chilly earlier, around 2'C all day down at the garage.

Found some Oak to use as it needs to be solid and structural.

Cut, measure, mark.

Then drill all the holes, including the adjustment slots

All of these will be hidden underneath the furniture.

After this I measured out the garage and removed some of my number plates where the boards will fit.

I may start tomorrow, along with putting up the Christmas tree with Nicola.

Tonight by 6pm it was -2'C BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR......

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside BILLYBOB

ROAD TRIP !!!!!

This week I won some travel vouchers at work which means I will be going to the USA on a truck and bike oriented road trip with mate Martin in October 2015.

Central to our trip is the weekend of 17th October when we will be in Fayetteville Arkansas for Clem's Old Truck Cruise In.

I spoke to Clem earlier tonight about Martin and I attending his party, and was told that we were now booked into his Vintage Airstream Trailers that have been converted to accommodation units on his property.

Coolest thing is that he lives in a 1950's Sinclair Gas Station.

The next weekend is the BikesBluesandBBQ.org show.

Time flies when you are having fun, and boy, we’re having fun in Northwest Arkansas! It was just a few years ago when Bikes Blues and BBQ didn’t even have a name; it was just a poker run with a BBQ grill, a blues band, and a handful of bikes at a Dickson Street Mexican restaurant (Jose’s, of course). Then it became America’s fastest growing rally, and then the world’s largest charity rally, and now suddenly, it’s been 15 years. What a ride, in every possible way. So, let’s celebrate that milestone the only way we know how – with the biggest party in this part of the country. As always, we’ll have free live music every day and night, the Stokes Air Bike Show, The BBB Car Show, stunt teams, The Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys “Miss BBB Contest” and “Blues Train”, the Arkansas State KCBS State BBQ Championship, Hambone Express Pig Races, the BBB Karaoke Contest, factory demo rides, hundreds of vendors, and so much more. The fact is, you’ll run out of time before you run out of things to do. But the real attraction of the rally is the multitude of great bike roads in the Ozarks region. No matter which direction you travel, you’ll find winding blue highways through spectacular scenery. Rivers, lakes, bluffs, picturesque towns, and we don’t have much in the way of straight roads. Everywhere you go,

This falls in line with Martin's 50th birthday on the 26th.

On the trip we hope to get some spares for the trucks and meet up with friends from Leander, Texas up to Tulsa, Oklahoma and a bunch of places I between.

Early days, but early planning could see us save a few pennies to spend on beer.
