Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

Got a little work done on the bumper this evening...

In primer, the rest will be in yellow tomorrow!

Hopefully hanging on the truck before the weekend.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

Not an overly exciting update, but my rear bumper is now completed.

Hopefully my cousin will have the mounts bent for me for the weekend. And then we can get it attached.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

Found my next conversion.... ha.

Actually I picked some parts off this relic.

Got a bench seat (will be recovering), black lap belts and some odds and ends.

Are you using those old seat belts? Please say no!

I was planning on it. Is there a reason I should not?

Just asking.

You could use the buckles and retractors and replace the webbing, look up "seat belt webbing".

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

It has been a long day. My cousin got my rear bumper mounts bent and ready to go. He came over this afternoon and welded them up for me.

In my opinion, it all looks good.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

Good eyes! They are just hanging for now.

Now with the bumper on, I need to bring the pipes/tips out a little.

I have some hangers that I need to install.

Will do. I will get by brother in law to get his Go-Pro hooked up for an official run.

Getting closer.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

Thought I would share a photo of my lap belts and seat I picked up over the weekend.

The belts cleaned up well. I know it was mention that I should discard the belts, but I do not see anything about them to not use them.

I am going to take the feet off the seat and blast and paint them up. I have a flip back seat that I am going to use and recover.

My interior should be here this week.

This old truck may be ready for a hot lap this weekend...

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

The only down side I see to using the original belts is the retractors are usually not working, any old chevy truck I've been in the retractors do not lock when pulled. I just bought new belts from LMC to correct this issue.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

Mine always lock fine, sometimes too much. If anything the retractors are sometimes a little weak but a good cleaning and greasing should fix that.

These belts have no retractors. They are old school lap belts. Click them together and pull it tight.

Is that a Sidekick/Tracker that your seat belts were hanging over in the picture?

Great work on the build, can't wait to see it finished!
