I haven't read all the posts but i just wanted to stand up for the gas stations. I'am sick and tired of hearing "why are the prices so high?" It almost makes me want to jump over the counter and start beating the guy. For some reason people get it into their minds that it's the partticular gas station that controls gas prices. I know for a fact that my gas station simply looks at what the Big Boys are selling their gas at and then we drop our about 0.015 less. (Canadian gas prices).
My city aprently has/had the highest gas prices in Canada (69.9/L). We drop ours to 64.9/L. And you would not believe the BS, us the little guys, have to put up with. If you want to fight the prices. Boycott the smaller stations Like Esso and so on, not all stations. My $0.02, D!m ------------------ BlueStreak 69 Chevy C10 - (Under Construction) pos_8@hotmail.com

I dont know, but I get 20 MPG from my 350 powered 68 suburban, it is not hard to get better gas mileage, even my 67 catalina got 21 MPG with a 400 cid non overdrive.
If we paid attention to mileage a little more, our demand would be less, and so would gas prices. I am a cheapskate of the worst kind, and am looking towards buying a 55 mpg diesel VW soon. It is all priorities, I think running an efficient engine, one that makes reasonable horsepower, and then adding nitrous for when you need a boost is the logical solution. The go-fast crowd has ignored the mileage crowd, but both can(sort of) coexist. Variable electronic ignitions, low friction parts, and even things like variable lifters. etc. Overdrive transmissions, and many other possibilities are often overlooked, and if incorporated, give better mileage than new cars, because the new ones are so restricted by exhaust and compression ratio. The technology is there, why not use it. ------------------ jku 70 C30 CST Longhorn 68k10 burb 69 K5 beater 43 willys GPW 40 Chev coupe 67 catalina

Just to clear the air (I've been away from the 'puter for a while), my comments were not directed specifically at you, 68 Suburban, but to all those who try to tell us that capitalism is bad, driving cars and polluting is bad, drilling for oil is bad, so on and so on. I don't care if gas does get to $5.00/gal., I can afford it, but that's not the point. (besides, my daily driver is a diesel, and diesel prices are a lot more stable than gas.) Why not get angry at the automakers for pumping out so many vehicles which creates a bigger demand for fuel, thus higher fuel prices? What about the DOT road planners that have their heads so far up their collective arses that they keep motorists in gridlock, burning up all that precious, expensive fuel while not going anywhere? There are a lot of factors that come into play here, but to ignore the fact that the GOVERNMENT makes more money off the sale of fuel than the Oil companies do, then trying to punish said oil companies for being profitable seems like a bit of misdirected frustration to me. The environmental movement, on the other hand, is just another stumbling block to exploration for more oil (which would bring prices down), and also helps to increase the taxes on fuel sales for misguided environmental concerns.
So, in closing, don't go thinking you were the target of a drive-by poster. You may accuse me of making unfounded, baseless arguments, but one could take your posts the same way. Truce?

I think its very possible to have powerful enough vehicles but yet efficient if people would do it.
Sad part is is that everytime an auto maker gets a efficient car made a gas company will buy the patent. You can look it up. You know how you always read of these new "thing of the future" efficient vehicles for years. Well look up the patents on most of them and they were bought by oil companies. So what we need to do (I am guilty as most) is to do more efficient ignition, exhaust, carb, etc. My $.02 ------------------ Nick Rodenberg Wellington, MO http://nickrod.port5.com You can click on "My 72 Chevy Truck" I have a 72 Cheyenne 10 with a V8 350 and a TH-350 auto-tranny. Man, 68 Suburban, you've outdone yourself on this one. 54 posts on this topic and you didn't even start it. Just ribin' ya. I kinda agree that we shouldn't ***** too much. I drive to work every morning, look at the prices and stop at freakin' Starbucks and pay $1-$2 for a stupid cup of coffee. I'm addicted to coffee and gas hog Big Blocks! I'll find something else to ***** about... if and when I need to.
