Re: Got Rust?

I'll be working on it some this weekend, but no body work yet. And I don't know who you're talking about when you say the "master", but if he shows up, I'll let you know.

What's the focus for the weekend?

Still rip & tear?

When your ready, bring it over and we'll get it painted.
(I know, long way off but ya gotta plan ahead for these things)

Re: Got Rust?

That cowl on the tub doesn't look that bad, what makes it so you have to swap out the cowl???

Sorry I'm not near your neck of the woods...I would help out

Yup...rip & tear it is. I'd like to get the top off and the tub freed up, if not off.

As for bringing it over for paint...hmmm...that would be quite a road trip. I'll have to ponder this one.

It has some rust holes in it and is beat up bad. The worst part is that the w/s frame is tweaked and I was told that it was rolled, although it doesn't look that bad. I got the copper firewall/cowl with it but the top of the w/s frame on that one is rusted, soooo I will be doing some major surgery before it's done.

It's too bad for me that you're not closer as it appears that you have a lot of knowledge and really know what you're doing. I've been watching your build thread for quite some time...nice job.

I will post pics this weekend.

Thanks for the comps.but appearances may be deceiving. I'm more of a problemsolver type of guy, and I like to challenge myself. That's why I buy rusty beat up cars that no one else wants, it's all just a challenge and this could be my last one. Funny thing is my youngest son does the same thing, only differance is he could afford to buy nice stuff to start with! I guess the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree

VT is the one that did a cowl swap before, that amazes me. Mine was technically never in two pcs., major holes were there but it was still one shell...Good luck, I'll be watching if I can be of any assistance....J.

I'll bet it's pretty cool watching one of your offspring follow in your footsteps like that. I'm hopeful that will happen with one of mine.

VT is another one on this board whom I have learned a ton from. The work he does is top notch as well. And there are many others as well with a lot of knowledge to share. That is what makes this such a great deal for $25 a year. The info on this board is worth much more than that.

OK I'm done, now I need to get some work done.

The factory seam sorta hooks around itself.
Do the separation slowly/carefully and it'll be clear what needs to happen.

First two show the truck firewall/floor
Second two show the blazer tub
Last pic is terrible but you can at least see the two different parts together.

So hey...have fun with it.

Re: Got Rust?

Well here is what I found when I pulled the rear panels off. The mice seamed to love it over the years, boy did it stink.

What do you guys think...should I replace the mounts?

Things went pretty well today. I should have the tub off tomorrow and start on the frame.

Re: Got Rust?

Why in the world would you stuff insulation in there? Amazing, perfect mouse house

Good work, looks like fun... if'n you have an extra set of 'B' posts give me a shout

I doubt it but is that w/s frame in good shape, maybe use it on the other tub

Really like the wheels and tires, little early but is that what you're running?

That's exactly what I said when I saw all the insulation! The w/s frame is wasted, but I have a good one. I think I will sell the wheels and maybe the tires as well, haven't decided.

Re: Got Rust?

Wow to the insulation - that is a new one.

Looks like you have your hands full, and that is how you continue to learn stuff about these trucks...or so they say. Keep up the good work.

Have a good one.

Re: Got Rust?

That windshield frame is better than mine! If shipping wouldn't be $$$ I would offer you money for it as it's alot more repairable than mine, and I'm too cheap to buy a nice one
All together I think your K5 is still in better shape than mine Good luck with it,it'll look good when it's all done.

Re: Got Rust?

I think those wheels look sweet. Old School even. LMK if you decide to get rid of them, maybe we can work something out. Keep the work up and the pics comin'. It seems like when one of us makes some progress it fires up the rest of us. I'll be workin' on mine tomorrow.

Re: Got Rust?

Things went well today also. A buddy of mine came over and helped me pull the tub and Jojotonka stopped by and helped me pull the engine. Now I get to start on the frame...or the engine...or the body work?

Thanks for the help Joe!

Re: Got Rust?

Well...I'm going to go with the existing setup. The engine is a 350 and was rebuilt approx. 15,000 miles ago, it came with a mountain of paperwork/receipts, but I'll be taking it to the local engine shop for a hot tank dip and then put it back together after everything has been checked and replaced if necessary. I was told that the 350 tranny only had approx. 500 miles on it when I bought it, so I will just clean it up. As for the transfer case, I'm not sure how to tell what it is, but I'll just clean it up and paint it. I'll open it up first, check it out and replace what needs to be replaced.

Of course all of this is subject to change at the owners discretion.

You're right, I'm committed now...or maybe I should be committed?

Only one surprise which is the very back pass. side body mount hole is rusty and will need to be welded up. Time to fire up that new welder.

Yeah, new welder but I haven't welded anything since high school. We'll see how this works out. But like you said in one of your posts, I enjoy challenging myself and learning new things, so what the hell.

So, what else would you be doing on a winters day, my Eagles are out of the playoffs, NASCAR didn't start yet, Flyers are my only hope of entertainment. You might aswell be playing in your warm workshop, right!

Doesn't everybody do this

Re: Got Rust?

Well... I spent a good part of yesterday out there, so today it will be a trip to the accountants and then maybe go out and clean up (what a mess I made)and take some pics.

Gotta get ready for the big festivities tonight, hopefully I can stay awake that long.
