Great JR
I love the red, mine is the same green but it will be a very dark turquoise when I am through. By the looks of your work it will great when your through. Where did the large dia. sway bar you put on the front come off of, or is it a new one from a company. Thanks ![]() ![]() |

I got it from CPP (California Performance Products). I am thinking about getting the one that goes on the rear of the truck being that my 18 year old Son is going to be driving it. So maybe he will be able to keep it between the lines. Thanks for the compliments and I will be painting the exterior this weekend, so I will be posting some more pictures. JRBECK64 |

Re: My Sons 64 Shortwide
198plus,
Ok, First lets define weekend. SATURDAY, SUNDAY, HOLIDAY MONDAY. Not Friday. Preping the shop for the paintjob Tomorrow. Thanks anyway for helping motivate me. Things are not going as fast as I would like. A friend of mine showed up this morning with a 1950 Chevy 5 Window Pickup and it is really nice but he doesn't have a garage to park it in. I gave him some free advise and that was to build a garage or build an enclosed Carport. Hope he listens because the truck is really nice. JRBECK64 |

Re: My Sons 64 Shortwide
I know I have been promicing pictures for some time now so here they are. My Son is really happy with how its turning out. We still have quite a few Irons in the fire so it might be a few more days before you see more pictures.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Now all we have to do is wire it, put the bed in, put in a new exhaust system, Get the engine fired after two years of setting. Oh yeah then there is the Color Sanding and Buffing. I forgot the most importand part, put it back together. JRBECK64 |

It made a huge difference in the handling and got rid of the "pogo stick" type of ride associated with the factory suspension. Their part number is #7401 for the rear kit for trucks with coil springs. This bar is 1 1/8" in diameter and is a simple 30 min bolt on (based on your abilities as shown by the body work photos which are quite nice btw). As to your question on rear gears you asked about in a subsequent post: I can not recommend the 3.42's enough! I have these in my truck behind the original sm420 granny box with a 30.7" dia tire and it is perfect. A great balance between low end pull and freeway driving. While the original 3.73's were fun to drive they sucked on the freeway. A replacement rearend (for the original that I exploded) had 3.08's and they rocked on the freeway but gave up a lot from a standing start. The 3.42's restored the fun while keeping the freeway rpm's in an acceptable range. You won't be sorry. I can not jump in on the disc brake swap on the rear. I have not done it and frankly I am not sold on the cost vs. benefits gained. Drums work good when set up properly. I am sure that there are several people on here who have experience with this swap that will chime in. |

Re: My Sons 64 Shortwide
Strodder,
I have heard it called Flame Red, Torch Red and even Viper Red. It all depends on who is setting at the counter at our local Paint House. I think by the numbers it is called flame red. The code on the paint is 4679 and I know its a Dodge color. Hope that helps. I have painted Guards Red and now Flame Red and I think I like the Flame Red Better. The Guards is to Orange. I guess it all comes down to your Preference. Thanks for the Compliment. JRBECK64 |

Thanks for all the info. I have been kicking around the 3.42/1 for the Diff Gears. I like the Idea of still having some low end but also free up the top end so you can actually drive this thing on the freeway. I have never tried to change out a set of gears in the back end of one of these 12 Bolts. I have heard if you dont have all the right feeler guages and equipment they can be a real pain to put in. I have a local shop that told me they would change it for me for $600 but that seems a little steep. I haven't done enough shopping around to know what is competitive. I have also thought about yanking the TH400 out of it and replacing it with a 700R but I have a ton of money in this thing and I dont know if the Accountant will free up the funds for that. I think I am going to put one of those Sway Bar Kits on the back of this thing, if for no other reason just to keep my Son a little more safe. Also thanks for the Compliment about how its coming along. JRBECK64 |
