the truck motors have a lower compression achieved by a valve relief cut into the block, other than that I am pretty sure they are the same.

hey check out the areo push in this artwork you linked to on ebay, and I really dig these full wheelcovers, they look to be left over 56 chev belair full wheelcovers reassigned to acessory truck duty!

I always thought the full wheelcover reference was to the Corvair truck line. Would be nice to see a better view.

That's correct. The 366 and 427 truck engines have the tall decks.

Whoa. Back the truck up. The 366 and 427 are Mark IV big blocks. They are not the same as the 348/409 motors. Jons was talking about 409 truck motors having lower compression. The compression chamber is in the heads of the 348/409 (or W series) motors.
W series are not small blocks, they are not big blocks. They are "tweeners". It is true that the Mystery motor was a 427ci version of the 409 for Nascar. That is when the crossover occurred. Please refer to 348-409.com for a more-than-complete discussion of the W motors. I am not an expert, but I just don't want to have a statement become internet fact, without a little check-up! Bottom line: Tall deck 366 and 427's have nothing to do with 348 and 409 compression ratios.

Gotta love the varied knowledge available here. Jonz eagle eye has discovered there was a full hubcap option 1960-61 Chevrolet truck with 15" wheels using the same full hubcap and part numbers as a 56 Belaire and Cameo truck.

Years ago, I saw a restored '64 C-10 short Fleetside with a 409 and a 4 speed. The 409 was not the passenger car version, but was the 409 'High Torque' truck engine. The owner supposedly had all the paperwork, and the story was the 409 was dealer installed. The truck had some RPO option code for a dealer engine swap, and it left the factory with a 283 and an extra heavy duty radiator and clutch. The dealer would buy the 409, swap it in, and sell the 283 as a crate engine. The owner said this was a very rare option, but a few dealers would do them and there were a few 409 pickups out there. I know I have never seen one before or since. But I also know that a 283's were dealer installed in '62 and '63 Novas. The story with the Novas was there was an RPO for a dealer installed 283, and the car was built with a 230 6 cylinder, heavy duty front springs, and a set of V-8 motor mounts and the special front sump oil pan in the trunk. The dealer did the rest.

that sounds like what this probably is, I think you could get a 4 speed tranny on a 57 chev passenger car, but same deal, it was dealer installed: therfore original...

BTW....Probably common knowledge....but the front "cradle" mount coupled with the bell housing mounts was designed for the medium duty trucks......

my 61- k10 has the front horse-shoe eng mount and the mount is drilled for the sb and 348. had a 62 years ago with a 283 1/2t lb and it had the front mount also. bought it from the org owner. v8 torsion bar trucks--did they all have the front mount?

thanks cap-that cleared that up. also about copo's back in the day ,most were for drag racing and weren't avl to the gen public. you were a top racer (you had to be they weren't cheep) or had a in with a dealer. most dealers didn't even know about the copo deal. probably why they didn't sell many.

well guys i do indeed still have the truck! I recently pulled it out of the corner it was in so i could try to get it running. After a new fuel pump and sending unit in the tank i got it to run and it actually ran very well! then i swapped out the third member in the rear end because it was blown. Here is the latest pic of it behind my motorhome.

60 -62 chevs/ canadian GMC truck V-8s were indeed front mounted , I have seen 348 without the side mount bosses. the frame rails on any 60-62 that I have seen were not drilled for side (63-66) type mounts
