Re: 1984 K20 6.2L suburban, project "Smokey the 'Burb"
Hey Mike!
How goes it? The white crew got put on the back burner. My son Zack picked up a better crew cab project. It has a much better cab and even came with '04-ish leather seats. We got it shortened and are working towards getting it on the road. We are still gonna use the 6.2/700R4/NP208 from the burb. Posted via Mobile Device

Hey Joe, how is it going? I like your son's crewcab project. The shortening job looks great. I have been so busy lately, that I have not been on this site as much as I used to. How is this project going? Keep it up.

Hey Owen,
It's going slow but sure lol. The engine, trans, and t-case are in. Most of the front clip is on. We still have a lot of little stuff to do. We will get there eventually

Re: 1984 K20 6.2L suburban, project "Smokey the 'Burb"
Zack and I built some shackle flip brackets and longer shackles.
We finally got them put on and actually have the truck sitting on the rear springs. We also got the bed set on for hopefully the last time. It's just sitting there right now. We need to line it up and drill some holes to mount it. When we shortened the frame, I left the frame a bit longer to account for the axle moving forward from the shackle flip to keep the axle centered in the bed opening. The axle not being centered after a lift is one if my pet peeves lol

Re: 1984 K20 6.2L suburban, project "Smokey the 'Burb"
Zack made cardboard templates to mock up the shackle flip brackets, I didn't realize until after I had them mostly welded up that I didn't take the steel thickness in to account and the brackets were too wide. Quickest and easiest solution I could come up with was to build some offset shackles. Worked out pretty well.
Still a lot of little stuff to do: Bolt down the bed Rebuild the front shaft Measure and have a rear shaft made Hook up the exhaust Flatten the front floor for the newer seats Weld in the correct t-case shifter hole and fill in the old one Sort out the wiring (plenty of hack and slash) New hoses, coolant, oil, and filter New diff oil Put the interior together (dye all the plastics first) ... Sorry for the crappy pics I'll get better ones later

Looks good! Is that on the Suburban frame or is it a totally different truck?

Re: 1984 K20 6.2L suburban, project "Burb sacrificed to build a 4x4 CCSB"
Thanks!!
It's a different truck. Zack bought it as a frame and cab, the frame had been stretched 2 feet, the previous owner had a 10 foot flat bed on it and a 12 valve cummins in it. He decided to part it out before it was finished. We had a pair of one ton axles that we threw under it with 4" lift springs in the front.

Re: 1984 K20 6.2L suburban, project "Burb sacrificed to build a 4x4 CCSB"
Guess I didn't post any before pics
The guy we got it from borrowed my trailer to strip the truck. It was just a frame and cab. This picture was after we threw some one tons under it

Re: 1984 K20 6.2L suburban, project "Burb sacrificed to build a 4x4 CCSB"
This is the flat bed the previous owner was building and the reason for the 2' frame stretch

That pic was back in the fall, we do have snow on the ground now but not as much as usual. We had a couple weeks of 40-50 degree weather back in January, that melted a lot. We are down to low teens for highs now and overnight lows hovering around zero. Thanks Hankster!

Lots of progress, not really much that makes great pictures.
We had to build a bracket for the rear brake hose.

Re: 1984 K20 6.2L suburban, project "Burb sacrificed to build a 4x4 CCSB"
I picked up a stock CCLB 2 piece driveshaft.
We had to shorten both pieces since we used the slip yoke NP208 from the burb. Also used the Trans crossmember from the burb so the t-case sits a bit lower than the one ton crossmember. We had to make a spacer to lower the center bearing a bit.

Re: 1984 K20 6.2L suburban, project "Burb sacrificed to build a 4x4 CCSB"
The local driveshaft shop wanted a minimum of $110 each to shorten the driveshaft pieces. I'm way too cheap for that so we dove head first into driveshaft customizing

They have turned out pretty well so far. We will see if we need to balance them after the truck is on the road.
