Re: 1965 Fastback GT
Since my last post (it's been a while) I have replaced the clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, pilot bearing, turned the flywheel u joints, balanced the drive shaft and almost finished the exhaust.
Now it's on to upgrading to power brakes, SS lines and hoses.

Re: 1965 Fastback GT
Started to work on the brake lines. I thought the long line would be difficult, but it went in really easy. I got the main line in as well as the axle lines and started on the front lines. Nothing is secured because I dont have the wheel cylinders yet. Also the bracket for the rear axle hose mounted to the body broke off. It had one little spot weld.

Re: 1965 Fastback GT
Have you talked to the owner about doing a dual bowl master cylinder upgrade on it?Its more for safety anyone that has lost brakes on a single bowl knows how hairy it can become.

Re: 1965 Fastback GT
No problem I'm kinda a mustang guy and that's one of the few upgrades they really needs. There is more safety upgrades like collapsible steering column and 3 point seat belts.Or for better handling a monte carlo bar and export brace stiffen up the front and easy to remove if wanted too.And for night driving led dash lights are nice and no one will know they are there unless in the dark. And led tail lights in the dark the factory lights are kinda dim.

He's wanting to put the original wheels back on it. The problem is he doesn't have any and I have no clue what they look like. I did a Google search and this is what I came up with for a some ideas. Help appreciated as to what should be on it. Also what size tire is suppose to be on it and what looks best. That way I can give him some options. One style I found

Re: 1965 Fastback GT
http://themustangsource.com/timeline/64-66/65/index.htm scroll down to gt fastback most had the styled steel rims i believe 14x7 but going up to a 15x7 would give better tire options.Or he can run the magnum 500s http://www.mustangdepot.com/OnLineCa...magnum_500.htm Also look on the back side of the rims he has now if it has a FoMoCo stamp and some numbers they are factory rims you could sell them and get back a little. On wheel and tire sizes http://www.mustangbarn.com/Techinfoi...dwheelsize.gif

Re: 1965 Fastback GT
Well, I messed up and ordered a booster/MC combo that will only work on an automatic car. The booster is hitting the clutch linkage. Trying to research my options. Any ideas here?
What is the switch for on the brake pedal? I don't see how it is actuated since it is not on a fixed bracket. It moves with the pedal. Front lines and hoses in place as far as I can go. i joined a mustang forum and posted this question here.

Re: 1965 Fastback GT
Notice the mounting holes are drilled so it will mount higher.
Here you can see the damage some idiot did. It was loosing vacuum. It should be repairable. I'll let you know or I can order a new m/s and power brake unit for you.

Re: 1965 Fastback GT
Since there isn't a repop proportioning valve available, I'll see if I can rebuild this one.

Re: 1965 Fastback GT
Took the proportioning valve apart and blasted the body of it. It has a couple small pits, but I think it will be find.
I took the grease caps off. One had this wierd thing in it and the other didn't have it. Both had the castlated cap with a cotter pin.

Re: 1965 Fastback GT
I don't know Alan, it still doesn't look that good. Can you get a new one, or install an aftermarket one? I wouldn't use it, just sayin.

Ended up having to replace the rotors and drums due to heavy pitting and being undersized. Driving out the wheel studs so I could remove the hub wasn't an easy chore. Ended up destroying 5 of the 10 studs on the front. You can see the smoke coming from one of the hubs. I tried more heat on this one. The first one I used some heat and lug nuts to protect the threads. But they still got bent. I need a press in the shop. Also got the MC mocked up with the lines installed. Those short SS lines aren't fun to mess with.
