Re: Whats under your hood?
go with a nail head man! them suckers are good lookin! thing that kinda sucks with that is not only are parts for the motor hard to find but you would also have to find a specific trans too right?

Re: Whats under your hood?
You ain't kiddin' man that stuff isn't exactly plentiful. I think that a GM trans with the unibolt pattern would work right? Otherwise surely an adapter is available.....
I already have a 700R4 for the truck......

from what ive read so far the universal bellhousing wont work. something about the way the torque converter bolts up on the nail head. gonna need an adaptor.

Re: Whats under your hood?
If I wasn't planning on using my truck as a daily driver I would have used my spare 1957 Chrysler 392 Hemi!!

Re: Whats under your hood?
Believe it or not fellas, parts aren't that too hard to find for the nailheads. I have a 401 I'm putting in my 64 gmc. It came from a 66 wildcat. The numbers stamped on the block say its the 340hp/455ft lbs engine. Come to find out there are several parts houses that still carry parts for them. I'm not just talking gaskets and plug wires, but pistons, valves, cams, and many other major internal parts. The only issue I've had so far is the transmission adapter. Yes you will need one, yes they are out there, and yes they are expensive. Transmissionadapters.com carries one for around $650. I can't remember the exact amount. None the less, I've got it at the machine shop right now. Should have a long block back by Wednesday! You will definately turn head with a naiklhead, go for it! I did! Ill post a pic of mine soon. Cell won't let me do it. By the way, I paid $350 for mine, not running, but complete and not frozen.

Re: Whats under your hood?
Thanks for the input! Sounds like they are proud of that adapter.

Re: Whats under your hood?
Heres mine. Factory 340 HP, 455ft lbs of torque with 10.5:1 comp! Like I said above, I got mine for $350 on craigslist. I used http://www.searchtempest.com/ to find it. Searches multiple craigs pages at once. Anyhow, they are out there, and parts arent that scarce. Speedway sells new pistons, rings, bearings, valves, and oil pump rebuild kits. They even have a whole aftermarket distributor as well. Autozone carries rings, timing chains, and other internals. Good luck with your search. Here is a link for the trans adapter.http://www.transmissionadapters.com/53-66_nailhead.htm

Plus you would have to build the engine again around that cam! Just go on boy.... If ya wouldn't spent all your money on them stupid mustangs and girls all them years you would have a Thumpin' engine.... Don't let the Ole' grey hairs fool ya boy! Now go get my Trophy.
