Re: Decal Replacement/77 Chevy Sport?
Thanks for posting the pic of the SPID from your truck. That is the only other 77 SPID I have seen posted on the site. I wanted to see if it said 9j8 or 9j9 like mine. Here is a pic of the SPID from my 77 fleetside. My truck has the original paint, but the stripes have faded away. The next pic shows the stripe on the back of the door. The third pic is the CHEVY SPORT that is still on the side of the bed.

Re: Decal Replacement/77 Chevy Sport?
I think the 9J8 gave you the roll bar package as well as the sport;interesting that yours shows a regular paint code where the other one shows a COPO code for the black paint. So few of these have survived intact that it is hard to document them.

Re: Decal Replacement/77 Chevy Sport?
Alex, my truck did have the roll bar in it, but it is gone. Here is a pic of the switch for the roll bar lights.

Re: Decal Replacement/77 Chevy Sport?
I am not sure if the aux light switch was used in any other application. So if you are looking at a 77 short bed that has the 2 switches in the dash that could be proof of a 9J9 truck.A bit like certain holes that were in the firewall of COPO Camaros and not used in any other models.

Re: Decal Replacement/77 Chevy Sport?
We found part of a stripe under the gas filler flange. Actually was in good shape but was only about 1/2 wide. I am somewhat surprised that none of the major auto graphic companys have not repro the stripes by now. It appears from this site alone a fair size market exist. Yep, a painted "work" bumper we thought that was odd as well.

Re: Decal Replacement/77 Chevy Sport?
To: 77chevysport---- Just wondering if you still have the sport truck with the hard to find stripes? If so has anyone indicated that they found a company to reproduce those? I have talked to a car graphics place and they said that if each panel could be photographed with a measuring tape to show width, color band, and reference the locations of each stripe panel they could possibly do a reproduction. Width of each appears to be the important measurement.

FWIW & JMHO Yes;we still have it. Now stored/sealed with a Private Collection (Group of People). Have tried for years to get a duplicate set of stripes with no luck. I have my doubt if anyone can duplicate these. (Not the size or shape but the color tones involved) Perhaps a big graphics company given the job and given the OK to do it with "COST AT NO OBJECT" deal. I think our best bet is to hope 80Sport will get one to restore. He has a company out there that has done stripes for other Chevy Sports for other years with good results. It seems to me he has the resources to get it done. Once done others can order the stripes from his company. One also has to use common sense to restore one of these trucks. As much as we all like these trucks we can not kid ourselves in the fact they are not in the same league as Corvettes/Camaro's as far as value after the restoration. Of course this is JMHO as indicated. Larry |

Your interior is looking great. That is the first sport I have seen without carpet.

Re: Decal Replacement/77 Chevy Sport?
Winter weather has slowed the project but we are making some progress. Hope to post a few photos along. The original red mat was in good enough shape to use.

Luckyone: Very Very Nice! I like it; your doing a good job. If you would like
me to put a picture of my interior on this thread let me know. I took some several years ago before storing it; if not no problem. Larry |

Re: Decal Replacement/77 Chevy Sport?
sorry for the delay--late reply----had a computer crash.
YES, the more photos the better in my opinion. That gives a good source to compare the differences in the "builds" as well as seeing some of the same specs common on all! |

Re: Decal Replacement/77 Chevy Sport?
Luckyone: Ok; here are a few I took a while back. Hard to tell by the light involved but to me it looks you have a different shade of Red then mine. In any case you are doing a great job. Hope the pictures help. Larry

Re: Decal Replacement/77 Chevy Sport?
it is hard to tell--could be shadows and sun making the color look. We do have the "chrome" strips for around the handles and door trim but not yet put those on. THANKS for the photos every one helps on the preservation. I hope to post a photo of under the hood next. The best I can tell-- all is there--even the jack, handle, and lug wrench. We had the AC serviced it works.

Really like this model. Does anyone know what transmission is in the manual?

Re: Decal Replacement/77 Chevy Sport?
They turn up occasionally...not many left with original paint ....which yours appears to have.I must be slipping ....did not see that one for sale and we are just above Idaho.
I had to go to Florida to find mine;first year of the Chevy Sport option and it was a COPO....9G4. Orange was the most popular color as that is what was on the ad. In the pre production picture they show white roof and aftermarket wheels...but I have never seen a production unit like that. Value has not gone up much but they always get attention at shows. |

Re: Decal Replacement/77 Chevy Sport?
I picked this one up off a facebook ad, it was only up for 15-20 min and I bought it bc the price was right, I didn't know what the sport package even was til I stumbled onto the info here. I think it's kinda cool tho and I plan to keep it original if I paint it.
