Re: Project: BLOWNUP

Well small notes, weather has been wet here lately on my days off from work, and since this a steet corner build that slows things down. Today was going to be the day I fired up the beast, but now I have to put a Helicoil in the manifold to bolt the blower down. Have had a bunch of trouble with the Mallory distrubter, I had to switch the gear. After I did that it still wouldnt drop all the way into the motor. I found that the slot in the oil pump shaft was to narrow for the bottom of the distrubter shaft, so I had to take a little off the distubter shaft so it would fit in the slot. So tomorrow I will put in the Helicoil and bolt the blower back on again, and fire it up.

Re: Project: BLOWNUP

Well the truck is all together but does not want to start. The motor spins over but it struggles to spin, i replaced the battery and starter. I am not getting spark either, I am at wits end trying to figure this out.

I put my distributor in 180 degrees off once and had a similar problem. Just an idea

Re: Project: BLOWNUP

WEll long time no talk. Been busy with work and sick. I checked the distributor and it was on, I put the old dizzy back in, and still nothing, I put new battery cables on, and that solved my problem of the hard starts, the postive cable was pretty bad. I still have no spark so I will tackel that wireing grimlen tomorrow

Re: Project: BLOWNUP

Well success kinda, the beast ran for about 30 seconds, i figured out why i had no spark, I had a bad crimp in my wiring so I wasnt getting power to the coil. I also know why the motor was turning hard, it wasnt anything mechanical. I have tilt steering column and it has a wobble in it, this wobble has become bad enough that it isnt allowing for good electrical connections in my ignition switch, if I push all way to one side the key wont engage the starter, if I push all the way to the other side the motor turns over easy with no problems. So my brother has a column I am gonna switch into my truck and see if that sovles my problems.

Re: Project: BLOWNUP

Nice build!! Pretty much what i was planning on doing with mine but with a 177. Nice to see a fellow nebraskan building a nice truck. Should be back up there this summer to visit all the relatives. Ill have to look ya up and buy ya a beer. Nice trophy by the way. Used to race with my uncle there back in the day. Ran a 70 Nova called stressed out.

Re: Project: BLOWNUP

Hello all, well I found my gremlin, the ground from my engine block to the frame broke and the truck decided to use my shifter cable as a ground, but the truck now runs, just need to set the floats, idle and timing. Monte I would go with the 177 if i had to do it over again.

Ah, the joys of hotrodding. Glad to see you hanging in there. Once the bugs are worked out, you should have an enjoyable ride! Post a walk-around vid when you can.

Re: Project: BLOWNUP

I am working on getting a walk around video made so I can show every one. I took it to a car show and took first runner up in the unfinshed class. The winner was an 85 short box step side. Went and raced at an 1/8mile track and just proved I need 4.11 gears.Got walked on by a big block chevelle. We where close horse power wise, but he just walked away from me because he was running 4.11's agains my 2.73. The truck has loads of torque. I am real happy with it and hope to have the video up buy the end of the weekend.

Any update on this? And if it's just a 1/8th mile truck why not put 5:13's in it?

Re: Project: BLOWNUP

Well there is not to much to update, BLOWNUP has been sitting in storage, the front pump seal on the tranny went out, no big deal. The big deal is I got laid off and don't have the extra cash to drive the thing, she gets abut 10MPG on 91 octane. And the idea of this whole truck was a nasty street truck. Before I got laid off I was able to buy a 12 Bolt rear end out of a 75 C10 with 3:73 and a factory posi unit. I need to rebuild the brakes and replace an axel seal and it can be put in. As for now BLOWNUP is winterized and waiting for the spring. Thanks for following guys.

Thanks, I have a couple interviews this up coming week so I should be back to work soon. This spring I should make some more progress towards the utlimate goal of a mid 12 sec street truck.

Re: Project: BLOWNUP

Hello Spring is here and BLOWNUP is gettting read for a few upgrades. Driver4r I will be running at Kearney a couple times this year. After driving last fall I noticed I had a tranny leak. The front pump seal gave up the farm so I need to replace it before I get to crazy. I also need to replace the tranny pan so I have one on order. I will also be ordering a new oil pan because I found a very small crack in my current stock one right by the flange that spits oil when the motor is running. So this spring is going to be about fixing the small things and getting this truck to run right. I will keep you guys posted as things come along and things get fixed and cleaned up.

Re: Project: BLOWNUP

I got my tranny pan, cooler, and temp gauge in this week. The tranny cooler is ment to run in addition to the cooler built in to the radiator, so does any one know which line is the supply line and which is the return on the tranny line set up? I also got my cast alum tranny pan. I have to have a hole drilled and threaded for my temp probe. I am going to mount the temp gauge on the front of the shifter housing so its out of the way and easy to see.

If you are going to run it along with the radiator, maybe this will help.

Re: Project: BLOWNUP

I got my tranny cooler installed today. Real happy with how it turned out. I used some brake line to go through the core support. I also used some large rubber line to protect the hard line from rubbing on anything. I also got my gauge pod mounted on my shifter. The tranny gauge isnt in yet, will wait to do that while I have the tranny out which will hopefully be this week if the weather stays nice.
