Sorry for the slow reply, but yes you need a metal one; You can probably get one for a quadrajet at a salvage yard for cheap. They might even let you have one for free. You need a flare wrench to install it.

Re: Can you take a look at these pics and tell me whats missing or wrong?

Do yourself a favor and stick with the Quadrajet. Holley's are junk and belong on Fords. Dad was with Ford 40yrs and can atest to that statement. (still drives a chevy)
I get so tired of hearing "quadrajunk" or "quadrabog". Not to be disrespectful but the folks that say that don't understand them and have not spent the time to do so. They are a great carb and will last you a long time, get you great performance and fuel economy as long as they are set up right.
Edelbrock makes a few decent carbs. One is modeled after the Carter AFB and another the Rochester Quadrajet. Both good carbs. If I was you I would either overhaul mine with a kit from the local autoparts store or buy a replacement. Plenty of good books out there on overhauling and setting up Quadrajets. Don't be scared of it, thats the only way you learn.

Becareful buying used, Quadrajet, Holley, what ever
try to get it off a running block
keep it simple, set up right ,
with the different size bores,it can make them great on gas, till you open all four lol
if you can't fix the carb, finding someone who can, will be harder the more rare it is

Re: Can you take a look at these pics and tell me whats missing or wrong?

sorry it took me so long to do as i promised but here goes.

Image one:the port farthest to the right is for the vacuum advance on the distributor. the large one just to the left of that goes down to the vapor canister as previously stated, but since your truck doesn't have one I would just cap it as shown. The top left and bottom left ports that are circled i would just cap off as well. The large port in the bottom middle of the carb. you already have hooked up correctly.

Image two: The threaded port in the bottom center of the carb. goes to your vacuum booster for the brakes. (large round thing that the master cylinder is mounted to if equiped) The other vacuum port just to the right of that is for your choke pull off only. The circled port on the intake just behind the carb. is where you should have the vacuum lines for the heater, and the shift modulator(metal line coming from tranny if so equiped). Make sure to use a vacuum cap on the port that is at the top center of the carb.

Image three: shows the plug in for your electric choke coil. That should be hooked to a 12 volt power source that is only on when the key is on. Ignore the other port that is circled in red on this image as that is the EGR valve which has been eliminated on your engine already. also notice that the choke coil housing on the carb. pictured doesn't have a port sticking out of the front of it. That is how yours should be as well. make sure to cap that port off. Which will not only keep you from having a vacuum leak, but will also allow your choke coil to work correctly since the carb. will not be able to pull air in through it.

hopefully this helps you out alot.

Re: Can you take a look at these pics and tell me whats missing or wrong?

Well my carb crapped out yesterday
I picked up my check and noticed it wouldnt go over 30
I thought it might need some tranny fluid so i checked and nope
it kept loosing power id press on the gas and it would choke i guess
and when i pressed on the gas i was hearing air like from the carb
under 30 it was perfect
so i took it to my neighbors uncle to rebuild my carb yesterday 4/20/12
(dont you like it when something breaks down its usually on payday)
hes been rebuilding carbs for many moons lol
Im just waiting for him to give me a call and tell me what the damage is to my wallet lol

well anyway ive been doing some modifications to the inside of the truck
In the first pic for the antenna it didnt have the connector that goes to it
so i just ran a speaker wire to the little nipple on the glass lol
its just for now and it works greak to ha
I fixed a bunch of the PO radio wiring
now the radio keeps its memory
one thing i was noticing on the second pic
i thing im missing some connections that go the 4 little gauges
battery is top left corner 0
oil pressure is top right corner 0
clock is bottom left corner 0
temperature is bottom right corner0

Well my ive noticed that my battery gauge dosent work
and my temperature gauge dosent work
is the oil gauge suppose to go up when you give it gas
like at idle its in the middle 30 but when im driving it goes to like 50-60? is that good?
i think my gas gauge is out because when the truck is off sometimes it will be at 1/4 to 3/4 of a tank
and when i turn the truck on it goes to half a 1/4 and stays like that all the time
i can fill it up and it will stay at half a 1/4. bad gas gauge?
Oh and my clock is to quick lol
