Re: 64 1ton (delivery day)
well a little update of upcomming projects !
i rec. my brackets from Capt-Fab for the pwr brakes, and pwr steering conversion, i also located and purchased the gear box, pump hoses etc for the steering, i also picked up my brake booster and master cyl. & finaly i located a complete 1981 1 ton cross member , so happy, disk brakes, sway bar, all the stuff i wanted, BUT now i wait until after good-guys to get started changing it all over, i still need to replace those 456 gears, i think i want to go with 342's so with my OD i hope to keep those RPM's down.

Re: 64 1ton (delivery day)
thanks for the compliment, it has been a blast to work on, the 57 is alot of fun i took 6 yrs to build it, but it turned out very well, it was in super Chevy a couple of years ago, that was fun.

Re: 64 1ton (delivery day)
well bad news, so i was working on the truck and twisted wrong and my hip went one way and i went to the ground, so now all my projects are on hold, my hip is to be replaced on Dec. 3rd and then i will be down for about 6 weeks, this really bums me out since we wait all summer long for the weather to get cool and this crap happens. and this weekend is Goodguys so i will have to take it easy, boy it sucks to get older, the mind says play the body says think again.

Re: 64 1ton (delivery day)
Sorry to hear about the health problems. Get well soon!! I love the truck. And that bumper really helps break up all the white.

Re: 64 1ton (delivery day)
just caught up with your project and i gotta say that is one sweet workhorse.
thats the way these beasts were made to be, really like the crane and the boxes you added. need to see motor and interior pics when you feel like it... hope your back to 100% real soon after the surgery. but you need to be careful for awhile. replacement parts can turn cronic if you don't rehab them right, thats something experience has taught me... |

Re: 64 1ton (delivery day)
well i'm trying to do as much as i can before going under the knife, i just wanted to tell you guys to have a great thanksgiving day , enjoy the time with your loved ones, dont drink and drive and lets all move on to the next holiday.
ok so i looked at a set of 342 gears and it will cost around 600-700 bucks to do that so i may have found a corp 14 bolt W/373's for $250.00 so for difference in RPM's i think i will go with the 373's 342's at 65 are around 1750 and the 373's are at around 1970. so thats what i think i will go with. now if i can go get it before i can't drive and hoist it on my trailer, oh well when i get well i will have enough to keep me busy for a few days. man it sucks to get old !!

Re: 64 1ton (delivery day)
You can't go wrong with a 14 bolt. They are a good strong rear end, and very good parts availability. Not like the Eaton HO52/72, where the only parts available are bearings, seals and brakes.
I hope you too, have a very Happy Thanksgiving, and I'll be thinking of you on the 3rd.

Re: 64 1ton (delivery day)
well it's been two weeks now with my new hip, this siting around stuff is hard to do, but so far i think i am doing ok, it looks like i should be cleared to drive next week so i can go get my front crossmember and my new to me rear end i can atleast get them home and use my crane to put them on my trailer untill i am able to get around better to start the install.
i will be busy 1.install the new complete front crossmember 2.install the pwr steeering box, pump 3.install the CPP tilt colume 4.get the power brake unit installed 5. install the new rearend w/354 gears 6.gather up all my needed parts for my 700R4 7.install 700R4 8.also finish braceing up the crane and finish down riggers. well thats what i hope to get done by the end of Jan. but i have alot more to take care of after that, then i have to get started on my 70 dodge dart project next, i could use more time.

I agree, glad to hear you're doing well. Hope you continue to have a speedy recovery. Just don't jump back in too soon and overdo it! Looks like you've got a nice list of stuff to do, & I look forward to the continued progress.
