Re: So I bought this K5 that someone started to convert to 2wd...
Since I like the idea of doing pretty much everything myself(minus the windshield glass and panel sectioning....) I decided that my grill shell was just in need of a little body work....and some chrome wrap!!!(the chrome is very difficult to work with and is far from perfect but this truck isnt a show car...)
I had to put the wheels and tires on it and take my kids for a ride...it still needs the rockers and tailgate wrapped but that will get finished this week!!! |

I have been driving the blazer around the last few days and other than the rear being a bit too high ,I have no issues with it....the 3.08 rear gears and fairly tall tires make it great for a cruiser....freeway driving is no issues at all. Lots of people at the summit racing cruise night were very interested in the wrap.... overall I think vinyl is a viable option to a paint job for a guy willing to take the time and learn to do it. |

Re: So I bought this K5 that someone started to convert to 2wd...
Its pretty much done for now...I have been driving the crap outta this thing...1200 miles in the last month! I did drop the rear end another inch by making custom axle saddles that had a built in one inch drop(gotta love having torchmate cnc plasma as a sponsor for my rock buggy) and a set of new ubolts... it looks just right now!
The seats will eventually be upgraded but will get me through this years Hot Aug Nights... |

Re: So I bought this K5 that someone started to convert to 2wd...
Success! This Ol converted k5 did awesome for the week of Hot August Nights....I didnt come across another 2wd blazer all week(hard to believe in a show with 6500 registered cars and an estimated 10,000 in town...).... Never lifted the hood once and have logged 2000 miles in about 10 weeks!!!
Only real plans are a seat upgrade before next HAN.... on to my next build.... 1951 Nash pro-street wagon!!! |

Re: So I bought this K5 that someone started to convert to 2wd...
No it doesnt but it will get one before next year.... it did bottom out a few times when it was full of strays we kept picking up!!!
I know the real 2wd notches are different due to the frame shape in the rear....not sure if a later model 73-up c-notch will work....? |

Re: So I bought this K5 that someone started to convert to 2wd...
its a good read....but if you are gonna convert one...dont be scared to stretch the wheelbase front and rear to help center the tires in the fender openings...the factory did a terrible job... my front crossmember is forward of the stock position and the rear axle is at least an inch back...

I'm curious on this as well. I really like this idea, and it doesn't seem too bad, except for the tailgate, that might be tough.

Here is where I bought my vinyl from... http://www.autovinylsolutions.com/ Had I not ruined a pretty big piece i would have been in this wrap just under $800 Quote:
Certain things it is very well suited for...as an example this is the taillight panel on my friends 67 camaro I did....took less than an hour and $6-8 in semi-gloss 3m vinyl.... I have a yellow 67 camaro too that is a big block that I will be doing the same thing since his turned out so well! |
