Re: Who loves to camp with their ole square body?

yeah, when i think back, it was kinda stupid, only had a hi-lift, & was a 4-5 day hike out if it snagged. worst part was climbing out- everything ended up at the tailgate.
i did attack it with a shovel before we left though.
tried to get the dog to go threw & check out the depth, but it wasen't happening

Re: Who loves to camp with their ole square body?

Here's some of my grandpa's square bodys from back in the day!! Maybe this is why I have 3 of em!! First was was a dark brown 77 or 8 C20, big mirrors, white bumper used to pull a 5th wheel to florida and back every winter. The 2nd is one that was before I was born. And the 3rd is my gramps and there is one sittin behind him!!

Re: Who loves to camp with their ole square body?

I believe it is a factory RHD as it was sold new here in Australia as a Holden/Chev C Cab. I'll get some inside pics soon and post them up. It needs a bit of work but I can't wait to hit the open road with it.

x2, a real blast from the past! lots of room in there.
sure seems weird seeing the gauges & s. wheel on the "other side", we have lots of imported toyota's, mitsu's, & honda's that are RHD, but very rarely a RHD square
i see your stereo is in the middle of the dash, do you have a stock radio under the heater controls?, or something else?

I miss the old camping days in Northern part of Michigan. I grew up in the Utica/Rochester area.

Re: Who loves to camp with their ole square body?

Camping is one of the reasons I have my K5. It's not quite ready for any secluded desert run with Larry, but its seen it's share of time behind his K10 in the mountains.

A secluded spot north of the Taylor Reservoir.

At one of our standard spots at Mirror lake just north of Tincup pass.

I'm planning on a more runs this summer. I got a new tent for xmas, it's going to get used..

I was lounging back against the folded seat drinking beer and watching the light show on the other side of the mountain, when it started blowing and raining. I closed here up and figured I'd call it a night when a friend called from Canada. It started really beating and rocking the Jimmy around so I told him I probably should get off the phone. I was wondering what I could do of a tornado hit. First of all,it was dark and I'd know it was a tornado right about the time I was airborne. There was nowhere to go any safer so I ride it out. I told my buddy I felt like I was in a tent held down by a Jimmy! Turns out we had 60 mph winds and it was this phenomenon called a derecho.

That was the first time I ever heard of such a thing. I think I wasn't in the direct path, but not too far, either. The next day things were a mess all over with trees across roads and power lines down. I rode out to the road and there was no one at all. I was glad I always go prepared for "what if" and just fished all day and carried on s I would have anyway. No infrastructure where I was.
Here's a token shot from a camping/fishing trip down on the river (Potomac),but not at my site
Love those pics, Tim! Makes me want to dust off my dad's old bed cap and throw a mattress in the back of Lester. How far down the Potomac is that?

EDIT: Wait...that's not near Shepherdstown is it? I think I recognize that sand bar.

Re: Who loves to camp with their ole square body?

Thank you for having this thread. I recently bought a 73 Camper Special, 4x4, and want to make it presentable; restoration is not my game.

I've been debating whether to keep the camper related fixtures on the sides: front fender, two on the bed.
Based on what I've seen here, I think I'll keep 'em even tho it means more work and $$.
