Here is a 69 CST CustomCamper/30 original owner 396 truck I was really on a fence over. Maroon and white with a red and maroon interior.

Again, nothing to do with Longhorns, but, I bought new a 72 1/2 ton Cheyenne, Orange and White deluxe two tone paint (I won't try to be funny again and torture you with the "three tone" comment) with black interior. I loved that truck, and was sick after I sold it in 76 to buy a new Silverado 4X4.

620? My Dad's half-ton was a 910, so I had thought the 3/4 ton would be a 920. Typo or is it really a 620?

Thought I would post my 72 Longhorn. It's my 2nd one, as the first one went to truck heaven 4 years ago. The first one I bought in 1985 and drove for 23 years. This truck I've owned for 9 years.

Ya i know mine is so rare there is no record of it But will have to pull the Vin code off of it But some one went to a lot of trouble to fake this truck.I was told it was a Fantame truck.I hear of a rumor back in the early 80's that GM built one off car's for there people that sold the most unit's in one year.Plus i hear that some rich people bought one off trucks and car's from the auto marker.So anything is possible.

But having a 396/400 AIR power steering roof lights and side trim with green glass houndstooth interior stainless trim around back window and below it it was a Camper modal.

So we have one rare truck here and it was made here in Calif But its a 1968 Longhorn or early 69 longhorn

What would something like this be worth if it was a early 68-1969 modal year truck.

One of my friends tell me it could be like one of them lost Yenko's it be worth in this condition 25K 35K I told him he's nuts.But he said one of 25 and they don't even note it in any logs GM has porto type 1966 Camaro's that where not issued to the public.But GM has them

Remember 1967 was a transgender year all but 1 form of GM car's changed the one car that stayed the same was 1966-67 Nova /

1967 Chevy truck's was all by its self. You can't count the 1967 modal year truck as the same as all the rest of the 1968--72 Chevy trucks cus of the Cab late 1967 where 68 body's.

Remember GM stated that Body change in 1963 where June 1 was suppose to be the next maker of truck modal year.

If you look at the OBDII did not start until june1 1995 OBDI car's are May 31 2005 and below so in the middle of the year GM Ford and Dodge use the middle of the year to change build Date and year.

so my 1968 long horn might be a 1969 But its a early 1969 and a late 68 modal year ya it can drive you nuts

Great longhorns! I love that they look a bit "sleek" or lowered just because of their length. Thanks for posting all the pics! Some really good looking trucks on here. Longhorn love for sure! Through these pics I'm finally starting to get some idea of what all the options and models offer. I don't think ill ever figure it all out but it's nice to see what was available.

Stsalvage, that longhorn has had the box replaced. The tool box was not an option until 1970. The cab light are unique, never seen a set like that. Kind of curious who made them.

I think that the five lights on the roof were a special order for 1-Ton trucks and maybe standard on the bigger ones. I worked for a Chevrolet dealer or two from 1970-1972 off and on, with a brief stint at the assembly division in Van Nuys, CA. But I'm not claiming to be an expert. Anyway, here's my Longhorn. When I win the Lotto, I'ma buy a new camper shell. Truth be told, if my wife didn't insist on keeping the camper shell, I'd toss it and use it like a real truck. I'll also replace the grille with a '70 grille, I don't like that thing, or the bug shield that's all shattered and held together with angle aluminum. Someday...

Cab lights were optional but that truck a few posts back doesn't have the GM ones. Those are aftermarket. In fact the OEM ones require a different roof that has locations stamped for them. I have aftermarket as well; in my case I'm just doing what my Dad's truck had from the dealer in '68, which also wasn't factory.

In the seven years you have had this truck up on the board there hasn't been a lot of information about it.
The VIN does not tell the complete story as Andy (longhornman) suggested it would. It does however tell us the truck is a 68 3/4 ton V8 pickup built in Fremont. But without a model number from the SPID it hard to tell from pictures what your truck actually is. Being as it has a late 68 VIN number, very late in fact supports it being a production 68 C20 Longhorn. However the toolbox bed would indicate the bed, bedside or box were later additions. Is the SPID present? Have you verified the frame partial VIN with the truck VIN? Has the frame been modified? Does it measure the C20 pickup 6.11" x 2.46" or the Longhorn/C30 7.20" x 2.77"?
It is very possible the truck is built up from a C20 with an extended frame or a later truck 69-70 (still had front drum brakes) that the cab has been dropped onto.
As to being rare or valuable a well worn modified truck is only as valuable as the documentation. Maybe one of these days we can arrange a visit to see it in person. :-)

Actually the lights and more importantly the bases appear very much like those seen on an Astro or Titan cabover from the early to mid 70s. They maybe an aftermarket replacement for the heavy trucks. Be interesting to see more and the underside of them for ID markings.

Dave its important to remember the early trucks (67-68) used a flat roof and a teardrop marker from the factory as did Panels/Suburbans through 72.
They were also offered as GM accessory kits for any flat roof conventional cab truck 67-72.
The raised pad roof came out with the introduction of the hockey puck style lamp (69-70) and continued with the fireman hat style lamps (71-72) as well.

Finally here is a picture of a 68 Longhorn bedside in very original condition showing to good effect the one year (68 only) placement of the Longhorn emblems, the optional B98 lower bodyside molding (with the 67-68 specific tailalmp molding) and the optional D89 pinstripe.

Don't get me wrong I like the truck and would very much like to find a 68 Longhorn with a documented toolbox but I don't see that happening. Having enough trouble trying to locate a great/loaded 68 C30 Longhorn (232 made).

68 C30 Longhorns are few and far between. With Longhorns being a late 68 introduction any slant nose Longhorn is a rare find. Listed production being 1902 C20s and 213 C30s makes it a one in ten chance at best.
