Re: 1957 chevy longbox to shortbox
I have also made the top to my hood rockets, I took a 5/8 inch plate and cut them out on a plasma cutter and then ran them on a mill to make them tampered then had them chromed.

Re: 1957 chevy longbox to shortbox
Making some inner wheel wells for my box so I can put a bit wider of a tire on it, I bought some 1960 chevy truck wheel well fenders for a fleet side, I cut them down from 13 inches to 9 inches wide, from Lip to lip. Heres some of the work.

Re: 1957 chevy longbox to shortbox
looks like it will be sooner than later for the finish.
just a note on the muffler. it looks quite close to where the bed wood will be. you may need a heat shield to protect the wood from scorching, or worse. |

Re: 1957 chevy longbox to shortbox
What would you do for a heat shield? make one or junkyard it?

Re: 1957 chevy longbox to shortbox
truck looks good!
for the heat shield bend or weld up a piece of steel _/-----------\_ (you get the idea ) and screw it to the bottom of the bed

Re: 1957 chevy longbox to shortbox
I think that front end is the way to go! MUCH better than a Camaro sub frame, way more available at a cheaper price and better to boot!

Re: 1957 chevy longbox to shortbox
I think the front end is great, Its been great for me, The only bad thing is the custom parts are not made for CV front ends, So if you wanna lower it anymore either you got to cut springs or maybe cut a notch into the frame if you want it lower. Wish someone would make 2 inch lowering spindles for CV. I cant only seem to find springs. Maybe shockwave shock for a nice ride, 1000 bucks seems kinda spendy for me right now though.

Re: 1957 chevy longbox to shortbox
Update: Last summer I bought a 3500 Express with a 6.0. Cut it up and I am putting the motor in my 57. Here is some pictures. I'm going to try to bolt my T5 to the back of it for the mean time. I hope to find a t56 for it but they are hard to come by, not totally wrecked.
